BUDAPEST, Feb. 20 -- The Hungarian men's national basketball team beat Slovenia 77-75 in the first round of the 2021 EuroBasket Qualifiers Group F on Thursday in Szombathely, west of Hungary.
The home Hungarians had difficulties against the strong Slovenians in the first and second quarters with a 6-10-point disadvantage.
The second half started from 32-36, and the visitors were still in advance, with the score set at 49-54 at the start of the final period.
From here, the battle evened out on the pitch, the two teams' played as equals, and David Vojvoda emerged as the best player in the field.
In the thrilling endgame, the penalties of local favorite Zoltan Perl made the difference, and the Hungarians started the Euro-qualification with a great success.
Hungary will meet Ukraine on Sunday in the second turn of the qualifying round.
