RIO DE JANEIRO, Jan. 12 -- Gremio head coach Renato Portaluppi was discharged from a Rio de Janeiro hospital on Sunday after undergoing heart surgery.
Doctors described the operation to correct the 57-year-old's irregular heart beat as a success.
"Renato is doing great. The procedure went well," said Eduardo Saad, who performed the surgery at a clinic in the beachside neighborhood of Copacabana.
"All has gone to plan and there has been no symptoms at all. The heart has returned to its normal rhythm."
Saad added that the former Brazil international forward should be fine to return to work next week, but will require periodic examinations. It is the second time in 12 months that Renato has undergone the procedure.
Gremio will begin their 2020 season with a home match against Caxias do Sul in the Gaucho championship on January 22.
