RIO DE JANEIRO, Nov. 24 -- Flamengo secured their sixth Brazilian Serie A title on Sunday, less than 24 hours after being crowned Copa Libertadores champions.
Gremio's 2-1 away victory over last year's champions Palmeiras meant that Flamengo have an insurmountable 13-point lead with four games left.
It is Flamengo's first top flight title since 2009, earning them a berth in next year's Brazilian Super Cup against Copa do Brasil champions Athletico Paranaense.
On Saturday, two late goals from striker Gabriel Barbosa gave Flamengo a 2-1 victory over Argentina's River Plate in the Copa Libertadores final in Peruvian capital Lima.
Not since Pele's Santos in 1963 has a team won both the Copa Libertadores and Brazilian Serie A in the same year.
Flamengo will represent South America at the FIFA Club World Cup in Qatar next month.
