KUALA LUMPUR, Nov. 19 -- China's women's doubles pair Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan returned to world No. 1 in the latest world rankings released by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) here on Tuesday.
Chen and Jia returned to the top place for the first time since August 2018, after clinching the champion in Hong Kong Open over the weekend. They also ended the recent reign by Japan as the top women's doubles pairs.
In women's singles, China's Chen Yufei, who also claimed the title in Hong Kong Open, rose to second place, mounting a serious challenge to Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei.
In contrast to Tai, Japanese player Kento Momota maintains a comfortable lead in rankings of men's singles, leading his closest competitors behind by some 30,000 points. China's Chen Long and Shi Yuqi rank No. 4 and No. 7 respectively. Two-time Olympic gold medalist Lin Dan ranks No. 16.
Indonesian pair Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo rank No. 1 in men's doubles, followed by their compatriots Hendra Setiawan and Mohammad Ahsan.
China continued its dominance in mixed doubles. Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong rank first followed by their teammates Wang Yilyu and Huang Dongping.
