BUENOS AIRES, Nov. 4 -- Argentinos Juniors moved to the top of the Argentine Superliga standings on Monday, despite managing only a goalless draw at Defensa y Justicia.
The result left the Buenos Aires club with seven wins from their first 12 matches as they moved ahead of second-placed Lanus on goal difference.
Traditional rivals River Plate and Boca Juniors occupy third and fourth place, respectively, both one point off the pace.
Defensa y Justicia, who finished second in last year's championship, are in a fight to avoid relegation with just 14 points from 12 matches so far.
Meanwhile, a late Pedro de la Vega strike gave Lanus a 1-0 win at Huracan on Monday night as Luis Zubeldia's side also clinched their seventh victory of the campaign.
In Monday's only other fixture, Gabriel Heinze's Velez Sarsfield held Cordoba to a goalless draw at El Ferroviario.
