MADRID, Oct. 28 -- Matchday ten in the Liga Santander only had nine games due to the cancellation of the game between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid, but despite missing the main course for the weekend, there was still plenty for football fans to enjoy: here are some things we learned this weekend in Spain.
1. Granada make history
The cancellation of the Clasico allowed Granada to make history by going to the top of the Liga Santander league table for the first time since 1973 after their 1-0 win at home to Betis.
The win, which came thanks to Alvaro Vadillo's 61st-minute goal, leaves Granada with 20 points - one more than Barca - and the fact the side from the south of Spain have played one more game than the league champions should take nothing from the achievement of the team that was only promoted last season.
Granada now have as many points after just 10 games as they managed to accumulate in all 38 games of their 2016-17 relegation season and even if they don't win the league, a start like this means it would need a disaster for this season to end like that one.
2. Credit to Oblak
Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak has been so good for so long that his excellence gets taken for granted, but he showed just how important he is in Atletico's 2-0 win at home to Athletic Club Bilbao on Saturday.
While the post-game headlines focused on the goals scored by Saul and Alvaro Morata, as well as Angel Correa's livewire display in providing two assists, the fact is that without two fantastic saves from Oblak when the score was still 0-0, the game could have had a very different result.
His first save was in the first minute to deny Inigo Martinez and now long afterwards he was at full stretch to save from Raul Garcia.
Atletico were booed by their fans in their last home game and had either of those chances gone in the atmosphere in the Wanda Metropolitano stadium would not have been quite so celebratory.
3. No goals no glory
The game in the Wanda highlighted Athletic Club Bilbao's problems as their excellent start to the season has evaporated after a run of five games without a win.
It's not hard to see where Athletic's problems lie: the last five matches have seen them score just two goals and one of those (against Leganes) came from the penalty spot. Worryingly it's not as if the strikers are missing chances, they team simply isn't creating chances and if things continue like this coach Gaizka Garitano will have to rethink his tactics.
4. Sevilla impress in duel of Europa League teams
Both Sevilla and Getafe faced each other this Sunday after Europa League matches on Thursday, but watching Sevilla's display it would be hard to credit the little rest Julen Lopetegui's side had between games.
Sevilla were unstoppable against a tough Getafe side and if it hadn't been for a series of saves from Getafe's former Sevilla keeper, David Soria, the win would have been much bigger.
Sevilla looks compact and creative in midfield and hardly suffered in defense and Javier Hernandez's first league goal will be a weight off his mind. The only issue is that Hernandez and fellow striker Luuk de Jong have just one goal each so far this season. If they start scoring regular Sevilla have a good chance of a top-four finish.
