RIO DE JANEIRO, Oct. 17 -- Rio de Janeiro's iconic Maracana Stadium will host the 2020 Copa Libertadores final, the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) said on Thursday.
The historic venue - which staged the deciding fixtures of the 1950 and 2017 World Cups - beat eight rival bids, including five from Brazil. The match will be played on November 21 next year.
It will be the second time that South America's top club competition will feature a single final, having changed from its home-and-away format over two legs this year. The final of the current edition will be played at Santiago's Estadio Nacional on November 23.
CONMEBOL also said that the final of the 2020 Copa Sudamericana would be played at the Mario Kempes stadium in the northern Argentine city of Cordoba. The Copa Sudamericana is South America's second-tier continental tournament.
The second legs of the 2019 Copa Libertadores semifinals will be played next week, with Flamengo hosting Brazilian rivals Gremio and Boca Juniors at home to their Argentine foes and defending champions River Plate.
