STOCKHOLM, Aug. 24 -- Olympic champion Germany won the dressage team gold at the Longines FEI European Championships 2017 in Gothenburg, Sweden on Wednesday.
Already in lead after the first two teams completed their Grand Prix tests on Tuesday, Germany inched ever closer to the title when third-line rider Sonke Rothenberger and his Cosmo posted 78.343 points to bring their total to an unsurpassble 227.915.
"We really couldn't expect at the beginning of the year that with two horses having been to Rio out of the team we would dominate the Europeans here in the team competition. All of us are really happy," said Germany's Isabell Werth, the world number one.
Denmark edged Sweden to win silver as Cathrine Dufour, riding the 14-year-old Atterupgaards Cassidy, collected 78.300 to earn Denmark their first medal since 2001.
Sweden took their fourth team bronze.
