SAO PAULO, Sept. 29 -- Former Brazil and Beijing Guoan midfielder Ralf de Souza struck his first goal of the Brazilian Serie A season to fire Corinthians to a 1-0 home win over Vasco da Gama on Sunday.
Vasco defender Werley appeared to put his side ahead just after halftime but his close-range strike was ruled out for offside after referee Ricardo Marques consulted the video assistant referee.
Corinthians took the lead five minutes later when Ralf played a clever one-two with Mauro Boselli before driving a low 25-yard effort into the bottom right corner.
The result left Corinthians fourth in the standings with 10 wins, eight draws and three losses, eight points behind leaders Flamengo.
In Rio de Janeiro, Fluminense moved three points clear of the relegation zone with a 2-1 home win over Gremio. Nene and Caio Henrique scored either side of halftime for the hosts before Patrick Machado pegged a late goal back for Gremio.
In other matches on Sunday, Santos secured a 2-0 home win over CSA and Internacional drew 1-1 at home to defending champions Palmeiras.
