MADRID, May 26 -- Tens of thousands of Real Madrid fans celebrated in the streets of the Spanish capital on Saturday night after their side's 3-1 win over Liverpool in the final of the Champions League.
Substitute Gareth Bale scored twice to give Real Madrid the win after Karim Benzema opened the scoring for Madrid and Saidou Mane equalized for Liverpool.
Bale's first goal was a stunning overhead kick ... perhaps the best ever scored in a European final, while his second was the result of a dreadful mistake from Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius, who was also to blame for Madrid's opening goal when he inexplicably threw the ball at Benzema who was standing two yards away.
The win means Real Madrid have won the last three Champions League title and have now won 13 in the club's history.
Many Madrid fans unable to make the trip to Kiev had watched the game on a big screen in the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium and the celebrations lasted long into the night as they gathered at the Cibeles fountain in the heart of the capital where the club traditionally celebrate their titles.
