BUENOS AIRES, Nov. 21 -- River Plate forward Ignacio Scocco will miss Saturday's decisive second leg of the Copa Libertadores final against Boca Juniors after re-injuring his right calf muscle.
Despite Scocco's absence in the first leg at Boca's La Bombonera on Nov. 11 - which ended in a 2-2 draw - River officials had expressed hope that the 33-year-old would be fit in time for Saturday's return fixture at the Monumental.
But the former Sunderland player suffered a reoccurrence of the calf problem while training, though the club did not provide details.
"A medical update on Ignacio Scocco: muscular injury in his right calf," River said in a social media post on Wednesday.
Argentine press reports said the veteran has already been ruled out of Saturday's fixture.
Boca are aiming for their seventh Copa Libertadores title while River are hoping to be champions for a fourth time.
The winners will earn the right to contest next month's FIFA Club World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.
