Education authorities have suspended several people after students taking the national postgraduate entrance examination at two universities in eastern China's Shandong province were given a test paper containing the answers.

Last Sunday, the province's Education Department said the incident had caused "serious consequences" and that the people responsible had been suspended.

The universities have been ordered to arrange for students to retake the exam.

Shandong Normal University has said it will cover the costs of accommodation and meals for those students who need to retake the test.

山东师范大学已经表态，将为需要补考的考生支付住宿和餐饮费。

The college said it was "deeply sorry" for the trouble caused by the mistake and pledged to hold the people responsible to account.

该高校表示，对于这一错误带来的麻烦“深表歉意”，并承诺将追究相关人员的责任。

A total of 2.9 million Chinese took the national postgraduate entrance exam, 520,000 more than last year, according to the Ministry of Education.

据教育部透露，共有290万人参加了今年的全国研究生入学考试，比去年增加了52万人。
