中国大学校园面临性骚扰问题

A Chinese undergraduate’s exposé of alleged sexual harassment on a prestigious Beijing university campus has grabbed the country’s attention and lifted the lid on a taboo topic in China.

一名中国大学生对北京一所著名大学校园内涉嫌性骚扰事件的揭露引发了全国的关注，打开了中国这一禁忌话题的盖子。

Kang Chenwei, a third-year student, documented 60 alleged instances of sexual harassment over the past decade at Beijing Normal University, one of China’s top universities and one of the few with a majority female student population.

Cases range from peeping Toms to an assistant dean who allegedly attempted to drug and fondle students.

The attention attracted by the revelations has prompted an unusually public debate in China, where concerns for a university’s reputation and students’ desire to avoid public shaming generally result in harassment cases being dealt with quietly or covered up.

The cases we can see in media are only the tip of the iceberg.

While there isn’t much media coverage of the issue, campus sexual harassment happens very often, said Li Ying, a lawyer involved in one of China’s few high-profile cases, in which a history professor in Xiamen University was fired in 2017 after coercing multiple students into having sex.

Professors and students at Beijing schools said they were unaware of any procedure for students to report unwelcome advances.
