WASHINGTON, July 26 -- The U.S. men's soccer team will play Uruguay in a friendly match in September, the U.S. Soccer Association said on Thursday.
"We look forward to this challenge against an excellent Uruguayan team. They possess a mixture of top-level offensive difference makers and experienced defenders that have competed on the world stage for years," U.S. head coach Gregg Berhalter said. "Part of the development of our team is being able to consistently compete against teams with the profile of Uruguay."
The match will be played at St. Louis' Busch Stadium on Sept. 10, four days after the Americans face Mexico at East Rutherford, New Jersey.
"In the national team we also speak about the importance of tradition, and St. Louis has one of the great soccer legacies in the United States. We look forward to adding to that history in September," the coach added.
The U.S. team failed to make it to the 2018 World Cup, and will start its qualifying campaign for the 2022 World Cup next June. Enditem
