WUHAN, July 19 -- China smashed Senegal 66-48 in the second stop of the 2019 China-Senegal Women's International Basketball Challenge here on Friday.
Chinese players ended the first half with a slight lead on 23-21. After the break, China geared up their attacks with a 8-0 spurt, and further enlarged the advantage to 46-31 in the third quarter.
Senegal attacked fiercely in the last period and once narrowed the gap to ten. However, Chinese player Yang Liwei kept the lead with two consecutive 3-pointers, and sealed the game 66-48.
"In the first half, we gained 23 points, while in the second we grabbed 43. The young players quickly adjusted their mind during the break and all performed well in this match," said Xu Limin, the head coach of the China team.
"Our training is not for certain games, such as the Olympics, but for the nurturing of more talents, which may lay a solid foundation for the Chinese women's team to go further in the world," Xu added.
The last game of the International Women's Basketball Challenge will be held in Guangzhou, capital of southern China's Guangdong Province on July 21.
