BRUSSELS, July 7 -- Dutchman Mike Teunissen held on to the yellow jersey for a second consecutive day as Jumbo-Visma came first in the team trial event during the Tour de France's second leg in Brussels on Sunday.
It took the Jumbo-Vismo team, of which Teunissen is part, exactly 28 minutes and 57 seconds to complete the 27.6km team trial event around Brussels.
Close on their heels were Team Ineos and Team Deceuninck-QuickStep who came in second and third respectively. Overall, the race was very close, with the 10th place clocking in at 29 minutes 38 seconds, less than a minute later than the first place.
Monday's third stage begins in Binche in Belgium before quickly crossing into France, before a series of Category 3 climbs towards the end of the 215km route to Epernay.
About 200,000 people watched the race on the streets of Brussels, according to statistics from the Brussels police.
The Team trial event held on Sunday consists of teams of eight riders, in which times will be taken on the fourth rider to cross the line, forcing the teams to control their effort with discipline.
The 27-kilometre course follows a loop to the south-east of Brussels before turning north, crossing over the early kilometres of the route via a flyover and then heading directly towards the Parc de Laeken before an emphatic finish at the Atomium landmark in Brussels.
This year's Tour de France chose Brussels as a starting point to mark the 50th anniversary of the first Tour de France title won by cycling legend Eddy Merckx.
The Tour de France started on July 6 in Belgium and ends with a traditional finish on July 28 along the Champs-ElysEes in Paris. It has 21 stages - with two rest days after stage 10 and stage 15.
