Scientists say they have discovered why drinking coffee makes it harder for women to conceive. 科学家宣称，他们已经发现了饮用咖啡所导致女性怀孕几率下降的原因所在。

Caffeine, the stimulant in coffee, impairs the transport of eggs from the ovaries to the womb, they found.

研究发现，咖啡中所富含的咖啡因会印象到卵子从卵巢进入子宫的这一过程。

Previous studies had shown that consuming too much coffee affected female fertility.

之前不少的研究已经正式，过量的饮用咖啡或导致女性的生育能力下降。

Recent research involving 9,000 women found that drinking more than four cups a day cut the chances of conceiving by a quarter.

在最近的一项研究中，调查了9000名女性的相关情况，发现每天饮用超过四倍以上的咖啡会使得女性成功受孕的几率下降四分之一。

Until now, the reason for the link was a mystery.

直到如今，这两者时间的关联依旧难以解释。

The new investigation, conducted on mice, showed that caffeine inhibits contractions of the fallopian tubes which are needed to carry eggs to the womb.

在最新的研究中，研究者们对于小白鼠进行了相关的实验，结果显示咖啡因会使得输卵管内壁引导细胞的能力降低。

The stimulant de-activates specialised pacemaker cells in the walls of the tubes. These cells co-ordinate waves of tube contractions which move the eggs towards the womb.

引导能力的降低将抑制输卵管的收缩，从而影响了卵子进入子宫的过程。

Study leader Sean Ward, from the University of Nevada in Reno, U.S., said: ‘This finding provides an intriguing explanation as to why women with high caffeine consumption often take longer to conceive than women who do not consume caffeine.’

研究负责人，美国内华达州立大学的肖恩·沃德博士称，“该研究揭示了为什么长期饮用咖啡的女性要比那些不喝咖啡的女性怀孕更加困难的真正缘由。”
