TEHRAN, Jan. 1 -- Markus Neumayr, the German midfielder of Iran's Esteghlal soccer club, joined Swiss Aarau club on Monday, Tehran Times daily reported on Tuesday.
The 32-year-old player joined Esteghlal on July 31, 2018 on a two-year contract but was released by the team on Dec. 16 at his request.
The German-Swiss player joined Esteghlal from Turkish Kasimpasa club but failed to meet the fans' expectations.
Neumayr, who just played eight matches for Esteghlal, has already played for Swiss soccer clubs Thun, Bellinzona, Vaduz and FC Luzern.
