KUNMING, China, June 14 -- Thailand defeated Myanmar 2-0 on Friday to win their third title in the 2019 Asian Sepak Takraw Championship.
This event ends at Yunnan University of Finance and Economics on Friday. Sepak Takraw is Thailand's national ball sport and their performance was good enough to win in the competition. They won both the men's singles and women's singles championships, but unexpectedly lost to Vietnamese in the men's double-team competition.
Myanmar tried to break the domination of the Thai team but the latter was too strong in the end. The Thai team led the score throughout and won comfortably the championship by 21-7, 21-9.
Although they didn't win a title at this year's tournament, Chit Nyein Lwin, coach of Myanmar team was satisfied with the performance of his team.
"Our team only actually trained together for ten days. We are very happy to win the silver medal when your opponents are the strong Thai team." Chit Nyein Lwin said that the Myanmar players are very young, they had studied the Thai team especially, hoping to grab an upset against them.
Chit Nyein Lwin said that they will continue to learn from Thailand as they continue to make progress in the sport.
