HANOI, Jan. 13 -- The first-ever Da Nang Tennis Open concluded in the central city of Vietnam on Saturday with the trophies in the singles and doubles going to a Spanish player and a duo from Chinese Taipei and Indonesia respectively.
In the singles final, Marcel Granollers from Spain, the 96th in the ATP rankings, defeated Matteo Viola from Italy, the 292nd, 6-2, 6-0, Vietnam News Agency reported.
In the doubles final, Cheng-Peng Hsieh, Chinese Taipei/Christopher Rungkat, Indonesia, beat Leander Paes, India/Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela, Mexico, 6-3, 2-6, 11-9.
The weeklong tournament, attracting 48 Vietnamese and foreign players, offered a total cash prizes of 55,000 U.S. dollars and 80 points in the ATP rankings each for the winners of singles and doubles.
It was the first time that Da Nang city hosted a professional tennis tournament in the ATP system.
