RIO DE JANEIRO, June 1 -- A brace from Inter Milan loanee Gabriel Barbosa gave Flamengo a 2-0 home win over Fortaleza in Brazil's Serie A championship on Saturday.
Barbosa put the hosts ahead just before halftime at the Maracana Stadium with a close-range tap-in following Giorgian de Arrascaeta's cross from the left flank.
Uruguayan playmaker Arrascaeta again provided the assist for the second goal with a perfectly weighted through ball that left Barbosa with only goalkeeper Marcelo Boeck to beat.
Barbosa has now scored four goals from five top-flight matches this season and is tied with teammate Bruno Henrique as the competition's top scorer.
The result lifted Flamengo to second in the 20-team standings, behind defending champions Palmeiras on goal difference.
In Saturday's only other match, Bahia won 1-0 at home to Gremio thanks to a second-half strike from Fernandao.
