LOS ANGELES, May 14 -- Actor Keanu Reeves, best known for his role Neo in "The Matrix" trilogy, received one of Hollywood's oldest accolades on Tuesday, placing his handprints and footprints in cement at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood in the western U.S. state of California.
Born in 1964, raised in New York City and Toronto, Reeves has made an indelible mark on the world of entertainment through several blockbuster films, including "Point Break" (1991), "Speed" (1994), "The Matrix" trilogy (1999-2003), the "John Wick" franchise (2017-2019) and more. He is considered as one of Hollywood's most sought after leading men with a worldwide box office total of over 4.2 billion U.S. dollars.
"I have been a part of some films that have been embraced, and I am very grateful," he said at the ceremony, "they have changed my life. They have given me life. They have provided me life. And I'm very grateful to the people who have enjoyed these films."
"Without your support, I am not standing here," he added.
Surrounded by his friends, fans, and fellow actors including Halle Berry, Laurence Fishburne, Reeves put his hands and feet into cement and signed on it. Fishburne, who played Reeves' mentor Morpheus in "The Matrix" films, described Reeves as one of the "smartest and most intelligent men that I have ever met."
Reeves' latest "John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum" will be released on May 17 in the U.S. market. In June, Reeves will lend his voice as a new character in Disney's "Toy Story 4," which will be Reeves first role in an animated film.
