BRATISLAVA, May 12 -- After defeating Britain 3-1, Germany secured their second straight win after beating Denmark 2-1 in a close Group A match in the Ice Hockey World Championship on Sunday.
After a goalless first period, Germany decided the fate of their opponents with two goals in the second. Matthias Plachta put one in from the right slot on a man advantage and Frederik Tiffels deked out Denmark's goalie Sebastian Dahm 11 seconds before the second buzzer.
Mathias Bau lit a spark of hope for Denmark in the last period when he cut the deficit by half after scoring from close range, but his teammates failed to answer his call even though they pulled their goalie towards the finish.
After a day's rest, Denmark will face the newcomer of the elite category, Britain, and Germany will face off against France on Tuesday.
