BERLIN, Oct. 31 -- Thiago Alcantara will be out of action for several weeks after suffering an ankle injury, Bayern Munich announced in a statement via the club's official homepage on Wednesday.
The 27-year-old attacking midfielder sustained the injury in yesterday's 2-1 win in the German Cup over lower league side Rodinghausen when Bjorn Schlottke tackled him in the 73rd minute.
Thiago limped, visibly under pain, off the pitch and had to be replaced by Serge Gnaby in the 75th minute.
According to the Bayern's statement, Thiago Alcantara will be ruled out for "several weeks", as a medical examination by club doctor Hans-Wilhem Muller-Wohlfahrt revealed "a ligament tear in his right ankle".
Bayern Munich sit currently on the 2nd place of the Bundesliga standings. They will face 11th placed Freiburg at the 10th round on Saturday. Enditem
