BERLIN, Oct. 9 -- Stuttgart have appointed Markus Weinzierl as their new head coach, the struggling Bundesliga side confirmed in an official statement on Tuesday.
Two days after the dismissal of coach Tayfun Korkut, the "Swabians" have named former Augsburg coach Markus Weinzierl, who has penned a deal until June 2020, as their new coach.
"With Markus Weinzierl we have committed an absolutely success-hungry coach, who knows the Bundesliga very well and that is important in our situation. We are convinced that we have signed the right coach for Stuttgart. He will decisively develop our team," Stuttgart's sporting director Michael Reschke said.
Stuttgart sacked Tayfun Korkut after slumping to the last place of the Bundesliga standings following Saturday's 3-1 loss to Hannover.
"I am really looking forward to the task. Stuttgart is currently in a difficult position, Nevertheless, I am convinced of the team's potential. I have been watching the Bundesliga intensively over the past few months and I am eager to start working with my new team," Weinzierl told the club's official homepage.
After the international break, last placed Stuttgart will encounter front-runners Borussia Dortmund at the 8th round in Bundesliga on October 20.
