MADRID, Aug. 14 -- Spanish Liga Santander side Valencia have strengthened their squad for the coming season after agreeing a loan deal for Russian international Denis Cheryshev.
The 27-year-old, who scored four goals to help Russia reach the quarter-finals of this summer's World Cup, has joined on loan from Villarreal for the 2018-19 season.
It will be Cheryshev's second spell at Valencia after he played on loan there for the second half of the 2017-16 campaign and it will see him reunited with coach Marcelino Garcia Toral, who he has previously worked with at Villarreal.
Valencia, who finished fourth behind Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid last season, will hope the Russian will be able to add depth along their left flank as they prepare to play in this season's Champions League.
Although the club still has hopes of signing Paris Saint Germain's Portuguese international Goncalo Guedes after his impressive loan spell with them last campaign, Cheryshev's arrival means that even if Guedes doesn't arrive they now have a proven player to perform down the left and support left back Jose Luis Gaya.
