Off 的妙用
1. Tell her the whole thing is off.
告诉她整件事己经取消了。 记得有一次跟几个好友约好了要去打球，没想到天公不作美，出发前居然下起了大雨。 这场球自然是打不成了。有人要我去通知另一个人不去打球了，如果是你，这句话用英语会怎么说？多半会说The whole thing is canceled. 吧 除了canceled，老外还有一个“简易说法”，就是The whole thing is off. 是不是非常简单明了呢？
2. I am off the hook now.
我解脱了。 如果你是一条鱼，有一天不小心因为贪吃被人给钓到了，几经奋力挣扎之后才得以摆脱鱼钩(off the hook) ，你能想象这是什么样的感觉吗? 没错，就是如释重负、终于解脱的感觉。比如考试刚考完，你终于不用再熬夜背书了，就可以说I am off the hook now.
3. My girlfriend and I have been on and off, on and off several times.
我跟我女朋友分分合合好几次了。 不知道大家还记不记得著名的电视剧 Friends。 剧中的女主角 Rachel和男主角 Ross 之间分分合合不知多少回。后来Ross 终于结婚了，娶了一个叫 Emily 的当老婆。在婚礼之前 Rachel很感伤地说：I and Ross have been on and off, on and off; but I feel someday we will be on. 意思就是：我跟 Ross 分分合合好几回了，但我总觉得有一天我们又能重新在一起。至于on-and-off relationship 就指的是“分分合合”的恋情了。 Off 的妙用
