跟老外交流总找不准重要信息在哪儿出现？其实人家话里话外都告诉过你，只是你还没听仔细。留心下面这些表达，你可能会少麻烦人家多解释给你听咯~
1. That is to say
看到这个短句第一反映，你可能会想到中文里的“也就是说”，是的它们起到的功效是一样滴~ 都是用来把之前没说清楚的讲明白些~
例：We—that is to say my wife and I—will be attending the wedding.
我们，也就是我跟我太太，都会去参加婚礼。
2. In other words
听不懂歪果仁说什么，你可能会要求人家paraphrase一下。也就是“换句话”再告诉你~ 通常接下来的内容都很直白……
例：Joe doesn’t like to work. In other words, he’s lazy!
乔不喜欢工作。换句话说，他就是懒。
3. I tell a lie
听到歪果仁这样说，别想着你自己被人家骗了。这句话的用意是把刚才说的不准确的纠正一下。
例：I saw him just yesterday. No, I tell a lie. It was two days ago.
我昨天还看见他了。不，说错了，是两天前。
4. To put it simply
有些话说多了越描越黑，还不如干脆利落一语中的。这句话后面浓缩的都是精华。如果你需要动脑子想想怎么概括一下，还可以说：How shall I put it? （我该怎么说呢？）
例：To put it simply, a tax can be a fee that you pay to the government when you buy something.
说简单点儿吧，税就是你买东西时交给政府的一笔费用。
5. What with
有些事情最需要说明的可能是原因了，这个词组可以引导原因从句，引出为什么如此。
例：Things have been difficult for him lately, what with his wife's illness and all.
最近他特别不容易，主要是因为他妻子病了和其他一些事儿。
