五位游客(Tom, Kate, Mike, Linda和Lora)正在一家旅行社看城市简介(A-F)。请根据他们的情况和喜好(1-5),分别给他们推荐一个城市去旅行,其中一项是多余的。
______1. Tom is a busy man, but he is available this November. He likes sports, so he wants to go to a southern city to have a good swimming.
______2. Kate is a historian, who is now doing a research into ancient cities. She doesn’t want to stop her work while traveling.
______3. Mike is a photographer, and he enjoys traveling around the whole country. One of his best wishes is to show his fans photos of the Great Plains and Lakes.
______4. Linda comes from the south and she wants to go to the north, but she isn’t used to the too cold weather.
______5. Lora is not a well-known actress. She always seeks her fortune. It is her dream that one day a famous director will recognize the worth of her when she is walking in the street.
A. Los Angeles is the largest city in California and the second largest city in the United States of America. As the home base of Hollywood, it is known as the "Entertainment Capital of the World", leading the world in the creation of motion pictures, television production, video games, and recorded music. The importance of the entertainment business to the city has led many celebrities to call Los Angeles and its surrounding suburbs home. B. Chicago is located in the northern part of the mid-western United States. To the west of Chicago, lies the Great Plains of the Midwest. Vast expanses of flat lands (much of them are covered with wheat and corns) extend nearly a thousand miles to the feet of the Rocky Mountains. The city is situated on the western shore of Lake Michigan, one of those five great inland seas known as the Great Lakes.
C. New Orleans is located in Louisiana at the southern end of the Mississippi River just before the river enters the Gulf of Mexico. The weather remains relatively warm all year. Snow and ice rarely travel that far south, but the middle of spring and fall are known for their rainy seasons. Summers can be extremely hot and humid even though the city benefits from coastal breezes. D. Seattle, Washington is located in the far northwestern corner of the United States, if you don't consider Alaska. The climate is surprisingly mild this far north. Little snow falls in the city. Seattle is often called the rainy city, but that is not accurate. The city does not receive a lot of rain, but it does get about 220 days of cloud cover every year, and most of the rain occurs during the winter months.
E. Boston is one of America's oldest cities and first settled in 1630. The capital of Massachusetts, Boston is a city rich in history and tradition, yet vibrant and modern. The summer months of July and August can be hot and humid. Boston is a city of neighborhoods, colleges, and wonderful walking trails designed to help visitors learn about its glorious past. F. Miami is located on the Atlantic coast of Florida at the southern tip. It is warm year around and usually very hot and humid during the summer months. Most tourists prefer to visit during October through April. Outdoor sports and swimming are open all seasons, so be sure to take your swimming suit and plenty of cool clothing.
