  .阅读理解

  A

Today’s parents miss the golden age that their own mothers enjoyed in the 1970s and 1980s,researchers found.

Mothers have less time to themselves and feel under greater pressure to juggle work and family life than the previous generation. As a result,88 percent said they felt guilty about the lack of time they spent with their children.

The survey of 1,000 mothers also found that more than a third said they had less time to themselves than their mothers did—just three hours a week or 26 minutes a day.

And 64 percent said this was because they felt they had to go out to work, while nearly a third (29 percent) said they were under constant pressure to be the “perfect mother”,the report found.

Other findings showed social network and parenting website were important in providing help and support among female communities.

Kate Fox,of the Social Issues Research Centre, which conducted the survey for Procter & Gamble, said: “With increasing pressure on mothers to work a‘double shift’—to be the perfect mother as well as a wage-earner—support networks are more important than ever.”

It comes as a separate report examining childcare in the leading industrialized nations found that working mothers in Britain spend just 81 minutes a day caring for their children as a “primary activity”.

Critics (评论家) say the pressure on women to work long hours, and leave their children in the hands of nurseries or child minders,is putting the well-being of their children at risk.

The study also shows that,in spite of the fact that more and more modern mothers go out to work, the burden of childcare still falls on them—even if their husband is not in work.

A father who is not in work tends to spend just 63 minutes a day looking after his child—18 minutes less than a mother who goes out to work.

Working fathers spare less than three quarters of an hour with their children.

Mobile phones and microblogs may be killing off our old etiquette(礼仪).This is probably why BBC broadcaster Sir Jimmy Young called for “a return to politeness” on the airwaves. Many experts responded.

Their apparent goal, reports The New York Times,is “to help members of Generation Y(referring to people born in the 1980s and the early 1990s) with navigate thorny,tech-age minefields(雷区)”.

First of all, they highlighted the manners of using mobile phones. It is never OK to leave your mobile phone on the dinner table. If you must go out and you expect a call, first inform your host or hostess of the situation and keep your mobile phone on “Vibrate” mode and in your pocket or on your lap.In the event that it does ring, excuse yourself from the table—don’t explain why, just simply say “excuse me”— and leave the dining room before answering the call.

Another focus is the proper use of “netiquette”:how to use emoticons(表情符号)in e-mails, how to be cautious when posting on someone’s microblog and how to manage multiple online chats.

“We’re living in an age of anxiety about the near-constant change and confusion in technology and social values,”Steven Petrow told The New York Times.Petrow is an author of five etiquette books, including Mind Your Digital Manners:Navigating Life in an Age Without Rules.

“Young people are getting sick of the irony and rudeness that is so common in their online lives,”Jane Pratt,editor-in-chief of XoJane,a women’s lifestyle website where etiquette posts are a popular feature, told The New York Times.“The return of etiquette is in part a response to the harshness(粗鲁)of online communication.Nice is very cool right now.”

1 Scientists and experts have proved the uniqueness of fingerprints and discovered that no exactly similar pattern is passed on from parents to children, though nobody knows why this is the case.

The ridge(隆起)structure on a person’s fingers does not change with growth and is not affected by surface injuries.Burns, cuts and other damage to the outer part of the skin will be replaced in time by a new one, which bears a reproduction of the original pattern. 2 Some criminals make use of this fact to remove their own fingerprints but this is a dangerous and rare step to take.

Fingerprints can be made very easily with the printer’s ink. They can be recorded easily. 3 Because of the simplicity and economy of this system, fingerprints have often been used as a method of solving the criminal case.A suspected man may deny a charge but this may be in vain. 4 When a suspect leaves fingerprints behind at the scene of a crime, they are difficult to detect with the naked eye. 5 Some of the marks found are incomplete but identification is possible if a print of a quarter of an inch square can be obtained.

A.Special techniques are used to “develop” them.

B.A fingerprint is an impression of the ridge structure.

C.It is only when the inner skin is injured that the arrangement will be destroyed.

D.With special methods, identification can be achieved successfully within a short time.

E.Some criminals may leave their fingerprints at the scene of a crime.

F.His fingerprints can prove who he is even if his appearance has been changed by age or accident.

G.Every human being has a unique arrangement of the skin on his fingers and this arrangement is unchangeable.

  .May I have your attention,please?

My topic today is about copying others’ homework.

As we know, some students copy others’ homework. On the one hand,we students have to do masses of homework both at home and at school.Sometimes we do have some problems, too hard to work out.On the other hand, lazy and uninterested in their lessons, some students copy others’ homework not only to finish the assignments but also to please their teachers.

In a word, copying others’ homework is a bad habit. For one thing,it’s against the school rules.Being students,we should be honest and work hard.If we have difficulties,we can turn to teachers and classmates for help. For another, copying others’ homework too often,we will lose the ability that can help us to think.

Personally,it’s for our own sake to study. We should try our best to gain knowledge.Let’s take action to prevent such bad behavior from spreading.

  Thank you for your attention.
