Ada Byron was the daughter of the British poet Lord Byron and Anne Isabelle Mibanke, who separated from Byron just a month after Ada was born.Four months later,Byron left England forever.Ada never met her father and was raised by her mother.Lady Byron wished her daughter to be unlike her poetical father, and she insisted that Ada study mathematics.Ada’s potential for mathematics became apparent as early as 1828,when she produced the design for a flying machine. It was mathematics that gave her life its wings.
Ada met Babbage in 1833,when she was just 18,and they began to write to each other to discuss with each other on the topics of mathematics, logic, and finally all subjects.Babbage was famous as the inventor of a calculating machine. In 1842,an Italian mathematician,Louis Menebrea, published a memoir(学术论文集)in French on the subject of the Analytical Engine.Babbage asked Ada to translate it.During a nine-month period in 1842-1843,she worked hard on the memoir and a set of notes she added to it.She was considered as the first to create the world’s computer programme.
In 1835,Ada married William King, who was ten years older than her.Ada had three children. The family and its fortunes were very much controlled by Lady Byron, whose domineering(专横的)manner was rarely opposed by King.
Ada died of cancer in 1852,at the age of 37.In 1980,165 years after Ada’s birth, the US Defense Department announced a powerful new computer language. They named it Ada in honour of her great contribution in the history of computing.

The Internet giant Google is testing its newest design,Google Glass, which the company describes as a wearable computer that may revolutionize how we interact with each other and with the world.
Google Glass is a tiny computer that sits in a lightweight frame, just like this, and rests neatly above your eye and it makes exploring and sharing the world around you a lot easier. The frame has a tiny video screen and a camera that connect wirelessly to the Internet through a smartphone.
Unsure about how Google Glass could or would be used, or how people would react to it,Google decided to enlist volunteers to test the new device. The goal was to see what innovative(创新的)ways people would come up with to use it.An average person uses a smartphone 150 times a day and Google Glass makes that technology available more quickly because it can respond to voice commands.
The device is turned on by tapping one side of the frame. When you say “Okay Glass” the screen shows a range of options, including searching the web, taking a picture, taking a video, sending a message, and searching for directions.Sweeping the frame with a finger scrolls the menu up and down.
Google Glass transmits sound through vibration(震动) against the head. The projected image is like watching an iPhone screen.
While it’s interesting to be able to do Internet-related tasks with nothing in your hand, wearing the device in public attracts a lot of attention. They’ve done something very interesting with technology, but in terms of social interactions they’ve got a very long way ahead of them. The real test for Google Glass is going to be out on the street to see how average people are going to react when they’re forced to interact with somebody wearing Google Glass.
Google says it is still testing the wearable computer, which runs on Google’s Android operating system, and is expected to be available by early next year.
5.For what purpose does Google test Google Glass?
A.To introduce the new product.
B.To persuade people to buy it.
C.To see how people react to it.
D.To offer people free information.
6.One of the possible functions of Google Glass is to .
A.attract a lot of attention from others
B.take a video when people are traveling
C.prevent the strong sunlight from burning
D.see more clearly than ordinary glasses
7.What does the underlined word “it”in Paragraph 3 refer to?
A.The lightweight frame.
B.The smartphone.
C.The Internet.
D.Google Glass.
8.What can be inferred from Paragraph 6?
A.The new device is still to be improved.
B.People will be interested in the newest design.
C.People wearing the device should avoid many attractions.
D.Average people are sure to buy the newest device.

Albert Einstein offered us more than just the amazing theory of relativity and E=mc2.Through his persistence in his discoveries in science,Einstein shined a light on how each of us can do the impossible by working hard, experiencing failure, and valuing people. 1
●Simplify your work
If you can’t explain to a six-year-old,you don’t understand it yourself.—Albert Einstein
The more complicated you have to make something seem, the more you do not understand the inner working of it. 2 Did they make even the most complicated topic full of vocabulary that you did not understand or did they make it easier to understand by simplifying?
●Live in the present
I never think of the future—it comes soon enough.—Albert Einstein
3 You can try to get yourself worried about the future and make plans that may not work out according to plans. What matters most is living now, today.Do your best right now and do not worry about tomorrow.
●Work towards the impossible
Only those who attempt the absurd can achieve the impossible.—Albert Einstein
If it seems ridiculous to others and you are willing to take the risk, then you are able to achieve the impossible. 4 You complete what was once an obstacle.
●Value people
Life isn’t worth living, unless it is lived for someone else.—Albert Einstein
If you put people first, they will value you and consider you a person who genuinely cares about others. 5 Show them that you value them.Thank them and send compliments their way.It will not only make their day better, but they will appreciate it and remember what you have done for them.
A.Spend at least a few minutes out of your busy day talking with people without any distraction.
B.Scientists in different fields are interested in the unique theory of relativity.
C.When you go beyond what others think is reasonable,an amazing thing starts to happen.
D.Think differently, and you may find your answer.
E.Even if you are not a scientist, you can apply these life lessons to your own life.
F.You are only guaranteed the moment that you have right now,at this moment.
G.Think about the best teachers that you have had in your life.
Ⅲ.语法填空
