  考点规范练12(必修2 Module 6)

  .阅读理解

  A

Ask any British female to name a kung fu movie, and after a lot of thought she’s likely to answer Kung Fu Panda, the animated American movie, which isn’t strictly a kung fu movie at all.

In Britain kung fu simply isn’t very well-known or popular. And those who do watch martial arts(武术)movies are 99 percent likely to be male.British females avoid martial arts movies. To our mind, they are an hour and a half of cruel male fighting, and about as fun as watching paint dry.

After watching the kung fu movie Ip Man,I’ve concluded that this attitude is a huge shame.Though it was my first ever kung fu movie,it’s made me aware that Chinese martial arts movies rival and even surpass American action movies. And I think most British females would agree with me if they watched Ip Man.

My reasoning is straightforward:Chinese kung fu movies are less about senseless violence and more visually attractive than Hollywood action movies. Both factors are female vote winners.

Unlike American action movies,Chinese martial arts movies do not show violence purely for violence.Kung fu revolves around a strict morality code. The hero only fights as a last resort. This morality code was central to Ip Man’s plot,a semi-biographical account of the life of Bruce Lee’s celebrated kung fu master,Ip Man.

Famed in his hometown for his kung fu abilities,Ip Man,played by Donnie Yen,refuses to practice his art in public. He only acknowledges his gift when forced to use it,during the Japanese occupation,to protect his family and community.

But my main reason for preferring the Chinese kung fu style of action movie is that in Ip Man,I saw how fighting could be as visually beautiful and technically brilliant as dance. In Hollywood, most action movies are understood to be about explosion,shoot-outs and boring car chases.Teenage boys may love these action elements but most females find them dull and boring. From now on when I choose to watch an action movie,Chinese kung fu will be at the top of my list.

When the holiday season began a few weeks ago,my wife suggested we start introducing our 9-year-old son to some of the movie classics by watching them with him,and when she mentioned It’s a Wonderful Life,I rolled my eyes.I had seen it so many times before, and while it is truly one of my all-time favourites, did I really want to sit through it again?

But I relented,I watched it with both of them, and I am glad I did.And if you are a parent, and your child has never seen this movie,it really is worth watching it together. It was made in 1946 and stars James Stewart as the small town owner of a family-run bank who dreams of leaving in order to accomplish something “big and important”,but gets nothing. At last he is about to take his own life, but the people who love him have been praying for him,so God sends an angel,Clarence,to prevent his improper behaviour. When George states,“I wish I were never born,”Clarence shows him what life in the town and elsewhere would be like had that been the case.I’ll leave it at that, because if you haven’t seen it,I don’t want to tell you everything of the film.

I think it is a particularly important movie for young people because the messages it delivers are so powerful. The movie beautifully shows that so many times we are affecting others in beneficial ways without even realising that we are doing so.The movie tells us,“This is what is important, not that you are well-known,or make a lot of money,or are a super-successful executive/sports star/singer/actor,or have a certain body type or a beautiful face.”

I have been working with children and teenagers for over 30 years, and it’s hard for me to think of messages that are more important for young people today to learn, and it’s hard for me to think of a film that does a better job of it.

C.People should try their best to realise their own dreams.

D.People always have some beneficial effects on others without realising it.

  Ⅱ.七选五

  Ways to save time

We all wish we had just a bit more time.Just think what you could do with an extra hour or two each day: you could finally stick to an exercise routine,or spring-clean the house,or write your novel,or learn the guitar and so on.

1 But I can help you find more hours in your day for the things that really matter.

  Get Out of Bed Earlier

If you normally get up at 7:30 a.m.try getting up at 7:00 a.m.That half-hour might not sound like much, but it could be time that you use to exercise,to read that book you’ve been meaning to finish, 2

  Do the Important Tasks First

Once you get to work, get the important ones done first (not the easy ones,or even the urgent ones). You can afford to spend at least an hour working on big, important tasks rather than on all those little urgent ones.

3 The urgent tasks will still get done, and you won’t miss the important ones.

  Reduce Interruptions

If colleagues have a habit of hanging around your desk to chat,or if the phone is constantly ringing, you might find that it takes you half the day to finish a simple task like writing a letter.Constant interruptions don’t just eat up time, they also break your concentration.

When you’ve got a big task to focus on,let your calls go to voicemail. 4 Wearing headphones makes it less likely that people will try to strike up a conversation.

   5

A few minutes chatting, browsing the web,and so on,can easily turn into hours of wasted time over the course of a day.

When you’re working, work. If your concentration is slipping, take a proper break: go and get a glass of water,or stretch your legs a bit.And if you’re facing a difficult task, try breaking it into small steps or stages so that it’s easier to deal with.

  A.Stay Focused on Your Work

  B.Take Breaks When Necessary

C.If you have an office door, close it.

D.If you work like this, you’ll usually save time.

E.Would you want me to make your day longer?

F.I can’t magically make all your days 25 hours long.

G.or simply to get your day off to a calm and organised start.
