考点规范练26(必修5 Module 2)
.阅读理解
A
My passion started decades ago as a kid on a flight to India.I was attracted by how such a large airplane was able to glide(滑翔) smoothly above the clouds.I made it a goal to become a pilot.I am now a pilot for American airlines.Though being a pilot consumes my life,it is a job worth doing.
My job is slightly different compared to that of a typical pilot. Most pilots have their routes they fly. They then familiarize themselves with the routes. However,in my case,I participate in any job where a pilot is immediately required. It is true that some days I might have a workday from nine in the morning to five in the afternoon. In fact, some days,I might even begin my work at three in the morning when I am needed to fly.Sometimes,as for the typical day,I do not have one.
Having been on the job for over two decades,I have learned some important life lessons. As I greet passengers boarding the airplane,I realize I,along with other airline pilots, have enhanced(提高) the lives of those who we are serving. In fact, there is one particular experience that I will never forget.A family was walking in from the gate, explaining that their beloved one was ill and had to be taken to a big hospital in another city immediately. It was at this point that I realized just how important my job was.
Therefore,my life as an airline pilot is definitely not for everyone. However,my job is something I enjoy thoroughly and will continue to do till I am old enough. As a pilot,I have been able to experience so many different types of situations in different places throughout the world. For anyone interested in piloting airplanes,I would recommend going for it.

Job Interviews
You have the education and the work experience;now all you need is a job. Most people spend more time getting ready for an evening out than they do preparing for a job interview. There are several things you can do to have a successful job interview. Here are some of them.
1.Know about the company where you are trying to get a job.Find out what the company does and who their competitors are.
2.Know yourself. Most interviewers will ask a question related to your strengths and weaknesses. Before the interview, examine the job you are applying for and determine the top skills needed for that position. For instance,if you are applying for a job as a telephone operator,it’s more important that you have strong communication skills than that you are tidy.
3.Have proof. It’s easy to say you have good organization skills. But if you can tell the interviewer about a time you organized an event,it makes the claim much more solid.
4.Prepare questions to ask about the company and the job.
An interview is a stressful event. When you are under pressure,it can be difficult to think straight.Preparing before the interview will make it easier to give answers to those tough questions. But you can’t think of every question they might ask.So relax and be confident.Remember, first impressions are lasting.

Crossroads International
How does Crossroads work?
1 .We take goods Hong Kong doesn’t want and give them to people who badly need them.We collect those goods and give them out in the welfare house in Hong Kong,Chinese mainland, elsewhere in Asia,Eastern Europe and Africa. 2 .
Who do we help?
The welfare agencies we help do not run on large budgets(预算).They are grass-root groups who have seen a need and tried to meet it. 3 .So our task is to help them do their task. Our warehouse is full of goods, from computers to high chairs, clothing to books, stationery to medical provision, cupboards to dining sets. They send us a list of their needs and we try to match it with the resource we have in stock.
How do we operate?
Crossroads itself also operates on a low budget. We do not buy the goods we send. They are donated.Similarly, rather than raising funds for freight(货运),we ask transport companies to donate their services. 4 .Even our full-time staff work on a voluntary basis.
What can I do?
We are always in need of people. 5 .If you are volunteering regularly,we can offer work in some of the following categories, some of the time. You are welcome to number your top three choices and we will do our best to accommodate them.
