Sometimes your biggest weakness can become your biggest strength. Take, for example, the story of one 10-year-old boy who decided to study judo 1 the fact that he had lost his left arm in a car accident.

“Sensei, ”the boy finally said, “shouldn’t I be learning more moves? ”

“This is the only move you know, but this is the only move you’ll ever need to know, ”the sensei 4 .

Not quite understanding, but 5 in his teacher, the boy kept training.

Several months later, the sensei took the boy to his first 6 .

7 himself, the boy easily won his first two matches. The third match proved to be more difficult, but after some time, his 8 became impatient and charged; the boy 9 used his one move to win the match. 10 amazed by his success, the boy was now in the finals.

This time, his opponent was bigger, stronger, and more 11 . For a while, the boy appeared to be overmatched. Concerned that the boy might get hurt, the 12 called a timeout. He was about to stop the match when the sensei intervened(干预).

“No, ”the sensei 13 , “let him continue. ”

Soon after the match resumed, his opponent made a big mistake: he dropped his 14 . Instantly, the boy won the match and the tournament. He was the champion.

On the way home, the boy and sensei 15 every move in each and every match. Then the boy 16 the courage to ask what was really on his mind.

“Sensei, how did I win the tournament with only one 17 ? ”

“You won for two reasons, ”the sensei answered. “First, you’ve almost mastered one of the most difficult throws in all of judo. Second, the only known 18 for that move is for your opponent to grab your 19 arm. ”

作者通过实际行动,证明了“A friend in need is a friend indeed. ”。

16.【解析】选B。从之后的分句“but soon I met a group of new friends and they were really nice”对比看,在此之前作者还没有朋友,所以是“孤独的”,lonely符合语境。

  18.【解析】选A。

I didn’t know how to help him because I didn’t have any money either.

  21.【解析】选A。

. . didn’t have any money either”和“I never lost hope”可以知道尽管作者也没有足够的钱(帮助朋友),但他仍没有放弃希望,因而空白处需要使用表示“但是”含义的转折词,however符合要求。

  26.【解析】选A。 所以选A。

作者在困难时突然想起了一个人,根据下文“I asked him if I could have my next two months’ salary in advance”可以知道作者想预支薪水,所以这个人应该是作者的老板。

  30.【解析】选A。

  34.【解析】选A。

“It’s well worth+名词”是固定搭配,意为“做……
