  阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。

  A

Although Wu Huifei was only a concubine(妃子) of Tang Xuanzong (AD 685-762), the sixth emperor of the Tang Dynasty, her influence was far greater than most in her

  position.

Historians say that the ruler loved her so much that, in AD

724, he banished his wife and made Wu a royal concubine.

“Although she was only a concubine, she was treated as an

empress with palace etiquette,” explained Shi Xiaoqun, director of relics collection for Shaanxi History Museum. “Tang Xuanzong even wanted to make her his empress

but was opposed by the ministers.”

The emperor had thousands of concubines in his palace in Chang'an (now called Xi'an, capital of Shaanxi province) but, according to Shi, he only loved Wu, the mother of seven of his children.

Wu died in the December of AD 737 at the age of 40 and was interred in Jingling Mausoleum. She was given the title Empress Zhenshun after her death.

“It's rare for a concubine to be given so much posthumous(死后获得的) honor in the history of Chinese feudal society,” said Liu Daiyun, research director at the Shaanxi Archaeological Research Institute.

Her tomb53 meters wide by 56 meters longis located in the west of Pangliu village, which is part of Xi'an's Chang'an district.

The recovered sarcophagus(石棺) is 4 meters long, 2 meters wide and 2 meters tall and is decorated with flowers and maiden figures, which archaeologists say is a rare cultural relic of high scientific, historical and artistic value. In ancient times, a sarcophagus was used to house wood coffins in order to preserve the body of the noble person.

“ I knew it was precious but I didn't know it was so beautiful,” said Han Qinglong, who headed the team that brought the relic back to China four years after it was stolen and sold abroad by tomb raiders.

Back in the old days, there were three wise men in ancient Greece.

These three wise men were from three different generations. Socrates was the oldest of the three. He passed his knowledge lo his student, Plato, who then passed it on to Aristotle. Socraies, Plato, and Aristotle were all great philosophers(哲学家).Together, their schools of thought have since become the foundation of Western philosophy.

Aristotle was born in 384 B.C.His father, Nicomachus, was a doctor to the king of Macedonia. As the son of a doctor, Aristotle was no stranger to science. Growing up, he learned quite a lot about medicine and biology from his father. Later, after Nicomachus passed away, he was sent to study in Plato's Academy in Athens. Aristotle was about eighteen years old then.

Plato's Academy was Europe's first university. It offered courses on various subjects.

Shortly after Aristotle began his study there, he devoted himself to learning everything on the curriculum.

He soon proved himself an excellent student.Because of his wide range of interests, Aristotle never limited his range of education. As a result, he became the leading expert in many fields. Philosophy was simply one of them.Aristotle was in the Academy for nearly 20 years.

He first joined as a student and then stayed on as a teacher.

By the time that Plato died around 347 B.C., Aristotle had already built up a very good name for himself. However, he did not get the job as the head of the Academy. That post went to Plato's nephew.

Some people believed that Aristotle felt angry at the choice. But there is no proof to that theory.

Regardless of what he had truly felt, Aristotle decided to leave Athens.

So in 347 B.C., he quit the Academy and went to work for Hermeias, ruler of Atameus, in Asia Minor (today's Turkey).

Aristotle was not alone in this time.

He and another Academy member, Xenocrates, who was also a famous philosopher, founded the Assus Academy. They taught there for several years. During his stay in Atarneus, Aristotle was on very good terms with Hermeias. He even married the man's niece, Pythias. Interestingly, when Aristotle later wrote his famous book, Politics, he said that the ideal ages for marriage was 37 for the husband and 18 for the wife. Given that Aristotle was 37 years old at the time, it is very likely that Pythias was 18.

Retracing one of the most important trading routes of ancient civilisation, this remarkable tour follows in the footsteps of such legendary figures as Alexander the Great and Marco Polo.

Crossing both Russia and China as well as some of the remotest former Soviet republicsKazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistanour journey will take in some of the most magnificent yet littlevisited sights from the ancient world.Eastbound(向东的) trips start in Russia's capital Moscow, where we have plenty of time to explore. We travel on to Volgogradbetter known as Stalingradwhere the Soviets turned the course of the Second World War, before heading to far remoter places that owe their importance to a time much further back in history.

The Kara Kum desert is followed by the amazing 2,500yearold cities of Khiva and Bukhara-considered so important by UNESCO(联合国教科文组织) that it supported their restoration-and then Samarkand, the‘Rome of the East’. Much admired by Alexander the Great, Samarkand is home to Registan Square, a spectacular open space surrounded by beautiful Islamic buildings and considered one of the most inspirational sights in central Asia.In between Khiva and Bukhara we take a twoday excursion into Turkmenistan and visit the capital city of Ashgabat, a huge modern folly(装饰性建筑) in the desert and a monument to the recently deceased President Sapamurat Turkmenbashi. We also visit the ancient city of Merv before returning to Uzbekistan.

After crossing the border into China, our tour takes in the fascinating Magao Thousand Buddha cave complex (a network of almost 500 grottoes containing over 2,000 statues and 45,000 murals created up to 1,700 years ago), the Jiayuguan fortress at the end of the Great Wall (considered one of northern China's most spectacular sights) and the worldfamous Terracotta Warriors, an army of almost 6,000 statues recognised as one of the greatest archaeological finds of the 20th Century. We end our journey in Beijing, the vibrant capital of modern, confident China...where the latest architecture rubs shoulders with Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City.

What killed King Tut? Historians and scientists have long

believed that ancient Egypt's most famous king was probably

murdered. But a recent scientific study claims to have found a

different solution to this more than 3,300yearold mystery.A

team of researchers now say that King Tut, the boy ruler, died

  of complications(并发症) from a broken leg .

Tut's full name was Tutankhamen . He was just 9 years old when he became the ruler of Egypt in 1348 B.C.His treasurepacked tomb was discovered almost a century ago. It was filled with royal riches, including a solidgold coffin, a gold mask, and piles of jewelry.

But unfortunately Tut died at the age of 19. Many experts have thought that Tut was killed by one of his advisers, named Ay, who wanted to be king. But thanks to a major modern science project, it seems Ay is innocent.

Researchers set out to solve the mystery of King Tut's death by using the tools of science, including DNA tests and electronic scans of his mummy(木乃伊). Scientist Carsten Pusch conducted the tests on Tut for the new study. He thinks a broken leg contributed to the young king's death.

More than 100 walking sticks were found in King Tut's tomb. This supports the team's findings. But how could a person die from a simple broken leg?

Pusch also found DNA evidence in Tut's body that indicates he had malaria (疟疾), a disease carried by mosquitoes. Malaria severely weakens the immune system.

Pusch and his fellow researchers believe the malaria and the bone disease together caused the king's fracture(骨折) to become deadly. Finally, the young king was just too weak to recover. So the effects of disease combined with the bad luck of a broken bone-not a jealous adviser-are likely the real causes in King Tut's death.

have been nominated(提名):Lina Wertmüller for “Seven Beauties”,Jane Campion for “The Piano” and Sofia Coppola for “Lost in Translation”.

“This is the moment of a lifetime,” said Bigelow, who received her statuette from Barbra Streisand, who opined(认为),“the time has come.”

She dedicated her award to the men and women who are risking their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan,as did “Locker” screenwriter Mark Boal, who won for Best Original Screenplay and claimed honors for film editing, sound editing and mixing.

Mark Boal highlighted the struggle to make the movie when only a few years ago in Hollywood.Money for such truelife drama was hard to find after audiences turned their backs on war films.“This has been a dream, beyond a dream,” said Boal,a journalist who was embedded(嵌入) with U.S. troops in Iraq.

Kathryn Bigelow defeated Cameron, her exhusband, for the helmer's award. The two were married from 1989 to 1991.

Jeff Bridges, widely predicted to nab(夺得) Best Actor for “Crazy Heart”,won for his portrayal of a downandout countrywestern singer. The son of Hollywood star Lloyd Bridges held his trophy high over his head, looking to the heavens and thanking his deceased parents.

Sandra Bullock, also a frontrunner, won Best Actress for “The Blind Side”.“Did I really earn this,or did I just wear you down?” said the romanticcomedy vet.For “The Blind Side”,however, she took the part of a reallife, strongwilled mother who helps take a homeless youth off the street and makes him into a football success.

The main event,of course, was the heated competition between Best Picture nominees “Avatar” and “Hurt Locker”.Both the blockbuster(风靡一时的事物) fantasy epic and the Iraq War actiondrama entered the Oscar battle with nine nominations(提名),but “Avatar” ended up with a total of three awards:Art Direction,Cinematography and Visual Effects.

52.Why does the writer use “Oscars 2010:Kathryn Bigelow wins Best Director” for the title?

A.Because Kathryn Bigelow is a famous director in the world.

B.Because Kathryn Bigelow made history as the first woman to receive the honor—Best Director.

C.Because Kathryn Bigelow has an exhusband,Cameron, who is a famous director in the world.

D.Because Kathryn Bigelow directed the film “Avatar”.

  解析 主旨大意题。女导演凯瑟琳·毕格罗创造了奥斯卡颁奖的历史,所以作者用该标题突出凯瑟林获最佳导演的历史意义及影响。答案出处见第二段第二句。

  答案 B

53.There are five words that are underlined in the passage, which one can be taken the place of by the word “trophy”?

  A.portrayal

  B.nominee

  C.epic

  D.statuette

  解析 词义猜测题。从文章行文看,所给的trophy(奖品)与statuette(小雕像)具有相同的意思,即它们都是奥斯卡奖。

  答案 D

54.How many Oscars did “The Hurt Locker” won?And how about “Avatar”?

  A.6;3

  B.5;3

  C.4;3

  D.3;3

  解析 细节理解题。从文章一、二段可以知道《拆弹部队》共获6项奥斯卡奖;从文末可知《阿凡达》获3项奖。

  答案 A

  55.Which statement is NOT true?

A.“The Hurt Locker” was expected to win Best Picture.

B.“Avatar” was expected to win Best Picture.

C.Jeff Bridges was expected to win Best Actor.

D.Sandra Bullock was expected to win Best Actress.

As we can see from the picture,it is raining hard, and there, under the broken umbrella, stands a man holding a small but good umbrella in his hand.

In my opinion, the picture tries to tell us that it's not the size but the quality that we should focus on.When it is raining cats and dogs, the large one cannot prevent you from being showered,or it doesn't work or function as it should, because it is broken and of poor quality, while the other one, small as it is,can protect you from the rain.

In our daily life, sometimes we pay too much attention to the size or appearance. In fact, what we should concentrate on is the quality.Only in this way can we benefit from what we have.
