British Prime Minister Tony Blair admitted on a television program that he has never sent flowers to his wife Cherie and that Hollywood beauty Grace Kelly was his dream lover.

Blair, who allowed Channel 4 interviewer June Sarpong to shadow him for two days last month, made other personal revelations(被曝光的秘闻) when asked questions he rarely heard on the usual television political programs.

During the interview for a program targeting 18to30yearolds,the prime minister admitted that he sometimes had to “wing it” when making public appearances and that he wanted to go out for a drink without being recognized.

However, the most dramatic revelation was his reply to Sarpong’s question whether he still sends his wife flowers.“I’ve never sent her flowers. If I sent her flowers, she will get worried,”Blair said. But he added,“I am romantic. There are other ways of being romantic.”

Blair needed a few moments to recall which posters he had on his bedroom wall as a youngster, and then revealed,“I’ll tell you...actually,when I was younger,I loved Grace Kelly.”

Blair admitted he initially found it “odd” to be prime minister and to be rushed in motorcades from appointment to appointment, and worried that his lifestyle left him “a bit isolated” from ordinary people.

He admitted that he was constantly on the phone between public appearances, and rarely had time to prepare for his next event, telling Sarpong,“I_wing_it_all_the_time.”

Asked what he would do if he could be invisible for a day,Blair said he would “just walk down the street and go to the pub...just be absolutely normal”.

Even if you really enjoy your job,it’s still possible to battle boredom as you work. You may not be able to make big changes—or change your job—but you can make small adjustments to your routine that can make every day seem, well,a little less routine.

  1.Switch Your Seat

Change your outlook at the office by changing your office.Ask your supervisor to help you find a new desk.Even switching desks with a neighboring coworker can offer a fresh atmosphere.

If it’s not possible to change your location, see if you can change your desk’s direction.A new view can be just as refreshing as a new location.

  2.________

Start and end your day in a different way.Consider a new mode of transportation,if it’s possible.Take a subway.Ride a bike on sunny days.Carpool with a coworker.Use a new route to get to your job.You needn’t change it for ever—just long enough to help you escape the boredom.

  3.Find a New Work Style

Sick of attending that longstanding Monday morning meeting? Try to change it to the afternoon.

If you find yourself feeling most bored in the afternoons, try to arrange to do your favorite tasks then and tackle less desirable projects in the mornings.

If you usually communicate with coworkers via email and instant messaging, start dealing with people face to face.Increased communication with coworkers may help improve your mood.

  4.Get and Set a Goal

If your work is short of objectives,it’s no wonder that work has become boring.Identify a goal and set an “achieve by” date for it.

Your_goal_needn’t_be_too_ambitious_as_long_as_you_have_enough_enthusiasm_for_it.Perhaps you want to make a new project.Maybe you’d like to pursue a promotion.Or you may even set a goal of finding a new job altogether.Whatever it is,actively move toward an objective.

25.Translate the underlined sentence in the last paragraph into Chinese.

  ________________________________________________________________________

  Ⅰ.单项填空1.D [首先delay doing为固定搭配;此外apologize to sb.for后加动名词结构,his为动名词的逻辑主语。]

  3.A [be content with sth.

  5.A [occasionally

  6.B [be particular about 意为“挑剔”。]

convince sb.of sth.

  9.B [promise后应为同位语从句,应用关联词that;entertain sb.to dinner招待……

1] The introduction of the new equipment has led to many workers ________.

  A.lay off B.laying off

  C.laid off

  D.to be laid off

  错因分析 许多考生会以为lead to后接省略to的不定式作宾语补足语,从而误选A,或有些考生认为many workers后接动词ed形式作宾语补足语或定语,从而误选C;也有些考生认为lead to后面接sb.to do sth.,从而误选D。

2] In order to improve English,______.

A.Jenny’s father bought her a lot of tapes

B.Jenny bought a lot of tapes for herself

C.a lot of tapes were bought by Jenny

D.a lot of tapes were bought by Jenny’s father

其实,in order to improve English 可以看成是to improve English 的变形,根据语法知识可知,主句的主语为人,选项C或D可以首先被排除。
