【2017高考复习】任务型读写
If you can find a tree which has been cut down, you will see many rings,or circles,on the base of the trunk.By learning to read these rings, you can find out about the tree's life.
The number of rings tells you how old the tree is.Each year, new wood is formed on the outside of the tree. This new wood is light in color when the tree is growing in spring and summer, and dark in winter when the tree is not growing much. So,if you count the rings of darkorlight colored wood, you can often find out how old the tree is.
You can also tell which years have been good years and which years have been bad years. When the lightcolored rings are very wide,it means that the tree has been growing quickly that year.If the rings are narrow,it has been growing slowly. If the rings on a tree trunk were greatly magnified, you would be able to see why the rings are lightcolored when the tree is growing quickly and darkcolored when the tree is growing slowly. The tree trunk is made up of microscopic tubes, like some pipes, carrying water from the soil, through the trunk, and up to the leaves. They are wide and thinwalled when the tree is growing quickly and they are carrying a lot of water. They are narrow and stuck together when the tree is not growing so quickly.
When a tree is old,the tubes in the centre of the tree don't carry water. The walls of the tubes have become thick with materials which have stuck along them over the years, forming a kind of wood called“heartwood”.This kind of wood is darker in color than the young, growing wood on the outside of the tree.
You don't very often see whole tree trunks which have been cut across. But once you learn to read a cross section of the wood, you can see much more in wood which has been used to make boxes, houses and other things.
In most wood, instead of seeing the trunk cut across, you are seeing it cut along its length.Because you don't see the whole tree, you can't tell how old it is.

The world would have been so much better if we all knew to say and do the right thing at the right time. However , that is not the case, especially when it comes to instilling (逐步培养) proper behavior in kids. Behavior modification(BM) techniques were recently created to help in instilling proper behavior in children as well as adults.
Behavior modification refers to establishing appropreciate behaviors in individuals and discouraging those that are not desirable. Behavior modification techniques are developed largely according to the principles of operant conditioning by B.F. Skinner, an American behaviorist. These techniques are used in behavior modification therapy that aims to correct and instill appropreciate behavior in children.
The most commonly used behavior modification techniques are positive reinforcement, negative reinforcement and punishment. Positive reinforcement refers to reinforcing a desired behavior through the process of rewarding it. This can be done by praising the individual as soon as he performs a desirable behavior. Negative reinforcement behavioral strategies are based on the removal of a negative consequence or a behavior because the desired behavior was performed. For example, letting a child not help in washing dishes because he behaved well at a family gathering is a form of negative reinforcement. Punishment is something that we all can relate to. Yes, it is just what it means. However, when put in words, punishment refers to subjecting(使服从于) an individual to a negative condition because of an inappropriate behavior.
The behavior modification techniques for children are mostly based on positive and negative reinforcement. However, parents should realize that these techniques can’t be relied upon totally for child behavior modification. Though the behavior modification techniques lead to quick results, a parent should continuously try to cultivate in his child the ability to appreciate the reason why such a behavior is expected of him. This can be done through effective communication and greater focus on the parent-child relationship. As a parent, don’t make the reward a monetary one. Try to make it look more like a privilege than a reward.
A parent should also be consistent with his technique and apply it whenever there is a chance so that the child gets a clear idea of what is expected and what is not . Although we talk so much about the role of a parent in bringing positive behavior modification in children, both parents and teachers have equally important roles to play. Teachers play their role through preventive classroom management, teaching social problem-solving skills like alternative thinking , and continuous monitoring of a child’s behavior. It is true that there are various behavior modification techniques available for encouraging proper behavior in children. However, there is nothing that can take the place of proper parenting and an affectionate environment.

任务型阅读(B)
请认真阅读下列短文,并根据所读内容在文章后表格中的空格里填入一个最恰当的单词。
注意:每个空格只填1个单词Interviewing someone for a job is not as easy as it looks. First, as the interviewer, you're tasked with finding the person who will not only do the job well but also fit in well with the other employees.
You have to make an evaluation of abstract qualities that can't be found on a résumé. Because you have to repeat the process for every potential employee, you end up asking question after question, applicant after applicant.
Still, interviewers need to be told something,“What is your biggest weakness?” is not a good question. It just isn't.
Now, job seekers have to understand that interviewers want to find some way to know what makes an applicant different from others. Asking questions that are seemingly impossible to answer is one way to see who can think creatively. Then what may be a proper way to respond to such a question?
Honesty, with a twist(新手法)
“‘What are your three strengths and three weaknesses?’ is a classic,
but not too many people know how to answer this,” says Kenneth C. Wisnefski, founder and CEO of WebiMax, an online marketing company.
“As an interviewer, we want to hear strengths that describe initiative(主动性), motivation and dedication. The best way to respond is to include these qualities into specific ‘personal statements’.”
“Similarly, weaknesses should be positioned as a strength that can benefit the employer.”
“I like to hear applicants state an exaggerated strength, and put an interesting twist on it. An example of this is, ‘My initiative is so strong, that sometimes I take on too many projects at a time.’”
This answer leads with a strength that employers want—initiative—and still acknowledges that you're not perfect.
Although you might consider this acknowledgement too honest, it works because it proves you're being honest.
Honesty, with progress
When you consider what your weaknesses are, think about how you have attempted to overcome them. No one is perfect, so pretending that you are a perfectionist will come across as insincere.
Debra Davenport, author of “Career Shuffle”, believes citing(引用) examples are the best approach.
“My preferred response for this question is to tell the truth without damaging the applicant's image.” Davenport explains.
“A better response might be, ‘I've had some challenges with worklife balance in the past and I realize that a life out of balance isn't good for me, my family or my employer. I've taken the time to learn better time and project management, and I'm also committed to my overall wellness.’”
The answer adds some dimension to the question, and proves you're thought beyond the answer. You've actually changed your behavior to address the situation, even if you haven't completely overcome the weakness.
Put yourself in the interviewer's shoes
However you decide to answer, Debra Yergen, author of “Creating Job Security Resource Guide”, recommends job seekers imagine themselves sitting on the other side of the desk.
“If you were doing the hiring, what would you be looking for? What would be your motivation for asking certain questions? Who whould you be trying to weed out? If you can empathize(共鸣) with the interviewer, you can better understand what they want and need, and then frame your qualifications to meet their needs for the position you seek.”
Once you consider what the goal of the question is and figure out what your honest answer is, you'll be able to give the best possible answer to a tricky question.
