[1]Every year, many people offer to find remains of lost societies and communities. These efforts take place across the world. For example,Forest Service experts and volunteers are working in the San Gabriel Mountains of southern California. They are looking for information about prehistoric and historic
settlements of native Californians.
[2]This kind of work interests theological (神学的) researcher Steven Ortiz of the Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth,Texas.Every other year,he leads an archeological dig in Israel. The dig is at Tel Gezer, halfway between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.Professor Ortiz directs the activities at Tel Gezer with Samuel Wolff,an Israeli archeologist.
[3]The experts, students and volunteers are hoping to
learn more about the ancient city of Gezer. The city is linked to King Solomon, who appears in the holy writings of Judaism,Christianity and Islam.Volunteers must pay for their transportation and children may take part if they are with a parent.
[4]Volunteers will face______________.The work takes time, patience and often, muscle strength. The ground may be hard and the sun may be hot.
[5]For some,Steven Ortiz said the dig is a religious pilgrimage (朝圣之旅).But there are a number of other reasons. Some just value ancient history, and they want to be a part of uncovering it.Ortiz said,“I think we attract people who think they want a crosscultural experience. They want to do something meaningful. They want to get their hands dirty. And they want to have a fun experience touring a foreign country.”
[6]Volunteering for the archeological dig provides all those things, and more.“You are helping science. You are helping history. But on the weekends, you get to have fun,and you get to travel the country and see sights you do not normally see.”

in turn相应地,转而;in particular特别地;in advance提前;in short简而言之。
答案: A
【答案】A
I went up to rescue a kite that was stuck in the branches of a tree中主谓宾句子结构很完整,所以使用过膝副词来引导定语从句,因为先行词是一个表示时间的名词,所以使用when来引导这个定语从句。 故A正确。
Between the two parts of the concert is an interval, _______ the audience can buy ice-cream.
A. when
B. where
C. that
D. which
【答案】A
When引导的定语从句修饰an interval,when在从句中作时间状语。
street(街道)符合语境。
21.D 根据第三段中“All that falls into the wallet will be pure gold”(所有进入你钱包的都是纯金)可知乞丐打开的是一个钱包,所以选 wallet,意为“钱包”。
“All that falls into the wallet will be pure gold; but every piece falling upon the________shall become dust”指上文提到的这种条件。
ground(地面)符合语境。
所以选look out。look after照顾;look up仰视,向上看;look down俯视。
25.C 上文中“With an old wallet in his hand”表明这是一个旧钱包,所以选worn,意思是:用旧的。
26.B could hardly wait to do sth.
Never fear.
shake(发抖)符合语境。
add(添加)符合句意。 One more piece was added and the wallet split。
34.C treasure(财宝)这里指代金币。

30% of the people in the neighborhood are most concerned about the diet safety problem of students. And they hope that students should acquire good living habits to avoid the problems. There are also 40% people choosing traffic safety as the topic one. In their opinion, students should put it in the first place that they must follow the traffic rules strictly.
