　　On May 12,2008，a big earthquake hit Wenchuan，Sichuan Province.Thousands of people died and many more were injured.Why are there earthquakes?

　　Earthquakes may happen anywhere on the earth.The surface of the earth has many plate pieces(板块)．These plates are always moving.When two plates move past each other，there is an earthquake.Many earthquakes begin under the sea.They often happen near the mountains，too.

　　What to do before an earthquake

　　What to do during an earthquake

　　If you are inside：

　　★Stay where you are.Quickly move under a strong desk，or along a wall.This will protect you from falling things.

　　★Don’t get into a lift during an earthquake.If your are in a lift，get out as quickly as possible.
