Here is an astonishing and significant fact:Mental work alone can't make us tire. It sounds absurd. But a few years ago, scientists tried to find out how long the human brain could labor without reaching a stage of fatigue (疲劳). To the amazement of these scientists, they discovered that blood passing through the brain, when it is active, shows no fatigue at all!

If we took a drop of blood from a day laborer, we would find it full of fatigue toxins at and fatigue products. But if we took blood from the brain of an Albert Einstein, it would show no fatigue toxins at the end of the day.

So far as the brain is concerned,it can work as well and swiftly at the end of eight or even twelve hours of effort as at the beginning. The brain is totally tireless. So what makes us tired? Some scientists declare that most of our fatigue comes from our mental and emotional attitudes. One of England’s most outstanding scientists,J.A.Hadfield,says,“The greater part of the fatigue from which we suffer is of mental origin. In fact, fatigue of purely physical origin is rare.”Dr.Brill,a famous American scientist,

goes even further,He declares,“One hundred percent of the fatigue of sitting worker in good health is due to emotional problems.”

What kinds of emotions make sitting workers tired? Joy? Satisfaction? No! A feeling of being bored, anger, anxiety, tenseness, worry,a feeling of not being appreciated—those are the emotions that tire sitting workers. Hard work by itself seldom causes fatigue. We get tired because our emotions produce nervousness in the body.

  25. What surprised the scientists a few years ago?

  A. Fatigue toxins could hardly be found in a laborer's blood.

  B. Albert Einstein didn’t feel worn after a day’s work.

  C. The brain could work for many hours without fatigue.

  D. A mental worker's blood was filled with fatigue toxins.

  26. According to the author, which of the following can make sitting workers tired?

  A. Challenging mental work

  B. Unpleasant emotions

  C. Endless tasks

  D. Physical labor.

What kinds of emotions make sitting workers tired? Joy? Satisfaction? No! A feeling of being bored, anger, anxiety, tenseness, worry,a feeling of not being appreciated—those are the emotions that tire sitting workers.

What's the author's attitude towards the scientists' idea?

  B. He doubts them.

  C. He argues against them.

  D. He hesitates to accept them.

BEIJING — Rising smartphone star Xiaomi is moving upmarket and taking aim at Apple's iPhone. The Chinese maker known for low-priced phones on Thursday unveiled (发布) a new model that Chairman J un Lei said is comparable to Apple's iPhone 6 but thinner, lighter and much cheaper. The phone starts at 2, 299 yuan ($375), less than half the 5,288 yuan ($ 865) price of an iPhone 6 in China.

Xiaomi, founded in 2010, passed South Korea's SaM:ung Electronics Co. in the second quarter of last year as the best-selling smartphone brand in China by number of phones sold. The company is expanding into India and other developing markets but has yet to announce plans to enter the United States or Europe.

Xiaomi "is a respected brand that already has an Apple-like following" in China, said analyst Brian Blair, who tracks mobile device makers at Rosenblatt Securities. Apple is still a relatively small player in China, selling about 45 million iPhones there last year, Blair estimates, but will continue to grow.

"Apple is very much a premium (高端的) brand," said Blair. "The company that's more at risk is SaM:ung, which has been losing share in that market."

Privately held (私人控股的) Xiaomi said last year's sales tripled to 61. 1 million phones and revenue (收益) more than doubled to 74. 3 billion yuan ($12.2 billion). The company, based in Beijing, recently completed a round of fundraising from investors that it said valued Xiaomi at $ 45 billion, making it one of the world's most valuable technology brands.

Xiaomi ran into legal trouble in India in December after a court blocked sales while it hears a complaint by Sweden's LM Ericcson that the Chinese company violated its patents.

  36

Most Americans would find it hard to imagine what life would look like without cars.

37 . The polluted air becomes poisonous and dangerous to health.

38 . That’s what several of the large car factories have been trying to do. But to build a clean car is easier said than done. Progress in this field has been slow.

Another way is to take the place of the car engine by something else.

39 . Many makers believe that it will take years to develop a practical model that pleases man.

To prevent the world from being polluted by cars, we’ll have to make some changes in the way many of us live. Americans, for example, have to cut down on the number of their total cars. A. Inventors are now working on steam cars as well as electric cars

  B. Americans know cars very well.

Another way is to take the place of the car engine by something else.

A large number of workers may find themselves without jobs if a car factory closes down.

  65.married

  66.But

  67. to promote

  68.willing

  69.whether

  70.Honestly

  1.which

  3.why

  5.married

  6.But

  7.to promote

  8.willing

How time flies! I can never forget how I became a good table tennis player. The first day I went to high school, I saw some of my classmates played table tennis. Amazed at how skillful they were, I was determined to play just as good. Later on, I often watch them carefully to learn their techniques.

  Then I

  kept practicing

hardly until I became too confident enough to challenge the good players. At the end of term, I became one of the best players in my class. I am really proud for this experience. It helps me realize that I can fulfill our potential but achieve our goals through hard work.

  1. how改为why

  2. played改为playing

  3. good改为well

  4. watch改为watched

  5. hardly改为hard

  6.去掉too

  7. end后面加the

  8. for改为of

  9. I改为we

  10. but改为and

  1. how改为why

  3. good改为well。 短语as well as和…

  6.去掉too

如果使用了too,会引起误解,因为too…to… 而不能…”。

  7. end后面加the

短语at the end of the term在那个学期结束的时候,在名词term前面添加定冠词the表示特指。

  8. for改为of

短语be proud of…

  9. I改为we

  10. but改为and 考查连词。

Something Special For Parents

Not long ago, Student Union in our school advocated that Senior Three students should do something special for their parents on the 18th birthday. All the students were actively in response to it and most of them have come up with their ideas. Some choose to write a letter, saying it's the best way to express their appreciation as well as love for their dearest parents. Others prefer to cook a big meal to show that they've already grown up.

As for me, I tend to do up hair, wash feet and cut finger-nails for my parents.

By doing what parents have been doing for me I can really know how much they devote to bringing me up. Also, being eighteen years old means it's time that I should take responsibility to take care of them.

Also, being eighteen years old means it's time that I should take responsibility to take care of them. Some choose to write a letter, saying it's the best way to express their appreciation as well as love for their dearest parents.

  Do you want to play?

W: No, I've got tennis practice today and tomorrow. But maybe this weekend?

M: My younger brother has a baseball tournament then...

  W: OK.

  Text 2

W: I need a bike to get to my new job. How much does this one cost?

M: That bike is the cheapest one we have, and it costs $200. But this bike is much better and costs $220.

W: Thanks, but I'll take the cheaper one. I also want this helmet that costs $30. (2)

  Text 3

M: What exactly are you looking for?

W: I am looking for a collection of the 19th century European paintings.

M: Is it the book on your left, the one with the yellow cover? (3)

W: Let me see. Yeah, this is what I want. Thanks a lot.

  Text 4

W: Well, your computer is broken. It won't turn on. How did you break it?

M: I don't know. I dropped it two weeks ago, but it was working well until yesterday. It's seven years old, though. I think it was almost time to get a new one, anyway. (4)

  Text 5

W: My father is a man who knows what's important in life—he has a demanding job, but he still makes time for his children. (5)

M: That's really special. Most people with important jobs aren't able to do that.

  Text 6

W: Wow, I had no idea you were such a good artist! When did you learn to paint?

M: I started studying one year ago. But I've been drawing since I was five years old. (6)

I've also been taking pictures for six years, when my dad gave me my first camera for my birtbday. I think photography has really helped me with my painting.

W: Your art is great! (7)

Why don't you tell people you're an artist?

M: I'm too shy to tell anybody about my art.

  Text 7

M: Which countries have you been to?

W: I've been to most of the countries in Europe, several countries in Asia—China, Japan, Korea, and Thailand—and to the United States and Canada. (8)

M: I thought you had been to Australia too.

W: No, but I'm planning on visiting Australia and New Zealand soon. Which is the most beautiful country you've been to?

  M: I think I'd say Norway.

W: Isn't it really cold there?

M: Well, the north of Norway is almost always cold, but farther south, it can be fairly warm in summer. It's a wet country, so there's snow almost everywhere in winter. (9)

  Text 8

M: Hey, I'm calling to say that I'm running late to the airport. Can you make sure that the plane doesn't take off without me?

  W: I'll try.

M: Thank you. I'm just sitting here in traffic, (10) There must be an accident or something. I've been here for 30 minutes, and I've barely made it onto the bridge.

  W: Oh, that's not good.

M: This traffic is really stressing me out. (12) I don't want to have to take a later flight!

W: I'm sure you'll be able to make it. The plane doesn't leave for another 2 hours. (11)

M: Yes, but Google Maps is telling me that I won't be at the airport for another hour and 45 minutes, which means I'll only have 15 minutes to check my bags, get through security, and arrive at the gate. That's impossible!

W: You can ask to skip to the head of the line in security. They're usually pretty good about that when you think you might miss your flight.

  M: I hope so,

W: Will you make more money working at the bank?

M: No, I will make a little less. But if I work hard, I will get promoted.

W: I thought you were going to look for a new job in California, where your family live. (15) We miss you, and you never have enough time to visit us. Why can't you work at a bank in California?

M: I am going to work at this bank for a year. Then l will try to transfer to a branch in California near you and dad! (16) I really want to move back to California, but I can't just pick up and leave. Working at this bank will give me some good experience.

  Text 10

Here, we have Washington Square Park, which is one of the most famous New York City public parks, It has played a central role in every major cultural movement in New York City for the last 100 years. As you can see, it is located between 6th St. and 4th St. in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Lower Manhattan. (17) The park covers eight city blocks, or just under ten acres. Surrounding the park on all sides is New York University; those brick buildings covered in dark green plants have been around since 1871, when the park first opened. Many of those buildings used to serve as homes and studios for artists, and the benches in the park are popular places for painters, poets, dancers, and singers to get together. The park's fountain area has long been one of the city's most popular spots for residents and tourists, and children love to skate and play games around the fountain. (19) There are two special areas for dogs to run around, (18) and during the hot summer months, many food and drink stands are set up inside the park. One of Washington Square Park's most recognizable features is the Washington Arch, which was built in 1889. (20) It was modeled after the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, which was built in 1806.
