Over 500 dogs being delivered to a butcher house were saved by a Chinese animal protection organization.

The incident then triggered debate among Chinese netizens about the necessity of pouring so much money and efforts into saving dogs.

On Friday, a truck loaded with over 500 dogs were stopped by volunteers from animal protection organization on Jingha expressway Beijing section.

Beijing Times reported these dogs were being delivered to slaughter houses in the city of Changchun, northeast Jilin province and would be eventually served on dinner tables.

After negotiations with the truck driver, pet service provider Leepet Holding Corp. and a philanthropic foundation, Shangshan Foundation purchased these dogs, each paying 50,000 yuan. Dogs were then delivered to the headquarter of China Small Animal Protection Association (CSAPA), being taken care of and waiting for adoption.

After the “dog saving mission” was reported, Chinese net users debate over whether saving dogs worth so much efforts and money while there are still many poor and needy people in China lacking assistance.

Some net users argue the dog saving mission is placing overt attention to animals while lots of needy people are still left unattended.

A microblogger “Xiaowulaitajie” said on China’s twitter-like website, weibo.com, “Dogs are saved, adopted and they attracted media spotlight. We'd better spend such money and take such efforts in helping the needy people.”

Another microblogger, Liluping, said "We poured such huge sum of money into saving dogs. I would rather the money be spent on disaster relief."

Some applaud volunteers’ actions and show eagerness of offering their helping hands to those saved dogs.

Still many disapprove those "saving dogs" critics, but they argue that such act nonetheless embodies social progress.

A microblogger named "broken bridge" said, saving dogs does not run counter to taking care of people. Such enthusiasm in public affairs will help raise social awareness in helping the needy.

My pretty girlfriend had a failed marriage in the past. After divorce, her parents shed the deepest protection and care to her by helping her attend to the child and offering financial aids. Her parents’ love made her pull herself together and forget the man who had hurt her before.

Nonetheless, her father, an honest and upright old man, after hearing his ex-son-in-law got promoted in his company, felt terrifically irritated (激怒)and went to his company to question his boss why a philandering(沾花惹草的) man with corrupt conducts could get promoted. The whole office fell into a mess immediately and many staff just watched on the sidelines. Some people even whispered

lightly, “It is a new era now and the relationship between men and women is very open. No one would care about that any more!”The old man stood silently in the office with his hands shivering and eyes tearing. That night, my girlfriend cried heavily in front of me. I asked her whether it was her father’s stupid deeds that made her feel shamed. But she said that she felt guilty for her dad and that though the rest of the whole world betrayed her, her old father would still back her up and help her get the justice she deserved, just as when she was young and the neighboring boy grabbed her ball, her father would get it back for her. However, this changed world was no longer the stage for her old father and his deeds became funnily obsolete(老式的). No one managed to see the real and ever-lasting love to his daughter behind his seemingly rude behaviors.

Now we have grown up, so much so that we could support our family and have our own children. But in our parents’ heart, they are still worried about us. They even would not like us to suffer a bit and try all means to protect us without caring about whether what they do is awkward and stupid or not.

Who in the world would love us so deeply and relentlessly without asking for any repay? Only our parents!

Over the years I’ve been teaching kids about a simple but powerful spirit—the ant philosophy(哲学).I think we should study ants.

Ants have an amazing four-part philosophy, and here is the first part:they never quit. That’s a good philosophy. If they’re headed somewhere and you try to stop them, they’ll look for another way. They’ll climb over, and they’ll climb around. They keep looking for another way. What a neat philosophy to never quit looking for a way to get where they’re supposed to go.

Second, ants think winter all summer. That’s an important perspective(态度,观点).You can’t be so naive (无知的)as to think summer will last forever. So ants are gathering their winter food in summer. An ancient story says, “Don’t build your house on the sand in summer.”There is some reason in what it says.It is important to think ahead. In summer, you’ve to think about the storm. You’ve got to think about rocks you enjoy the sand and sun.

The third part of the ant philosophy is that ants think summer all winter. That is so important.During the winter, ants remind themselves,“This won’t last long;we’ll soon be out of here.”And on the first warm day,the ants are out.If it turns cold again, they’ll go back, but then they come out again if it is warm. They can’t wait to get out.

And here is the last part of the ant philosophy. How much will an ant gather during the summer to prepare for the winter? All that he possibly can. What an incredible(难以置信的)philosophy, the “all-that-you-possibly-can” philosophy.

What a great philosophy to have the ant philosophy! Never give up,look ahead, stay active and do all you can.

52.If ants have trouble reaching somewhere, they will_________.

Agive up their effort at last

  B.1ook for others’ help

  C. wait for a chance to come

  D. get there in another way

  53.In Paragraph 3,people are advised __________.

Ato build their houses in winter

  B. to gather some food in winter

  C. to build the house on the sand in summer

  D. to think about the storm in summer

54.The third part of the ant philosophy is ___________.

Amore important than the other three

  B. to believe in yourself and think about no difficulty

  C. to be active and make use of every opportunity

  D. that we should know winter is longer than summer

55.Which of the following shows the “all-that-you-possibly can” philosophy?

  A. We should try our best to do what we can.

BOne should think of what will happen in the future.

COne should get more pay for what he has done.

DWe should spend more time doing our work.

附:行人  pedestrian  中国式过马路  Chinese style of crossing road   天桥  overpass

not until the subprime loan crisis(次贷危机) had caused great damage to the American financial system是被强调部分,因此后面用that引导主句。

apart from“除了…… rather than“而不是”;owing to“因为;由于”;expect for排除的是细节。

fight for与……做斗争;为而战;apply for申请;call on拜访(人);号召;call on sb. to do sth.

policy“政策”;behaviour“举止;行为”;tendency“倾向,趋势;癖好”。

  16.A。 That's what everybody says…

  18C。由本句中的动词plays,smiles和runs,以及空词后面的“until he is too

20D。由一句中的“playing with his toys all by himself’可以推出“他经常玩玩具”。

  get along with意为“相处;进展”;deal with意为“处置”;put up with意为“忍受”;play with

  A。由下文中的“At that time he’s alone,”可推知更多的时候Alejandro生

  23C。同样由“At that time he’s alone,”可以推知Alejandro孤独症发作的时候,即使你对他大声地说话,他也会不理睬你。

24A。由最后一段的第一句“The future is cloudy, but we will try everything we can do to reach him”可知作者和妻子努力地跟两岁的儿子沟通。

  28B。由“He regularly doesn’t eat.”

35D。由“but we will try everything we can do to reach him”可知作者和妻子能够积极面对儿子患有孤独症这件事,他们相信他们能够战胜任何困难。

A。 从整篇文章我们知道这是对奥巴马的一个采访,从奥巴马所谈及的“I am the person who is best prepared to finish the job so that we are on track to succeed in the 21st century”话中我们知道他对第二次竞选总统是积极乐观的,因此应该是“成功的”。

Nowadays, it’s common in China that some pedestrians(walkers) tend to run the red light in groups when crossing the street, which has raised widespread concern. Actually, running the red light, also called Chinese style of crossing road, is quite dangerous for it may lead to more traffic jams and accidents. There are two main reasons behind the phenomenon, one of which is that some people are in such a hurry that they ignore the traffic light to save time. Others take it for granted that drivers have to stop because so many people cross the street together, thinking little of safety. In order to prevent this dangerous behavior, more overpasses should be built to make it easier for pedestrians to cross the street. Besides, the public should be educated to follow the traffic rules and whoever breaks the traffic rules should be severely punished.
