(2016·云南师大附中高考适应性月考)Volunteering abroad is great. Not only do you travel to an exotic country, you also meet likeminded people, and at the end of it,you have something to put in your CV(简历)to impress employers with. But have you ever stopped to think about how great it is for the people at the receiving end?

In this context,Daniela Papi has a point—foreigners rushing heroically to volunteer in a country they have never heard of are unlikely to make a difference, but discouraging people from volunteering altogether risks throwing_the_baby_out_with_the_bath_water.Their simply turning volunteering camps into classrooms makes volunteering lose its way.

Of course, learning should be a natural part of the experience, and the key to creating such an environment is positioning everyone as equals. In order for that to happen, volunteers need competent leaders who create an environment of equality.

A few years ago, when I joined a group of international volunteers to help a small farming community in the Swiss Alps,we were all quite ignorant about the local conditions. But thanks to our group leader,it was both a helpful project for the locals, and a fun as well as eyeopening experience for us.

Before we even traveled(at our expense)to the mountain top village, our group leader had spent time with the villagers preparing the project to make sure it would be of benefit to them. She arranged for us to help in different areas, ensuring that we always worked alongside the locals rather than for them.It was never “us” and“them”,but always “we”,like a big family. As a result, conversations flowed and we learned a great deal just by casually talking to the locals as we worked.

In the end,we left with a deep appreciation for the labor of love that went into producing the food we ate every day-an appreciation we could treasure ourselves and share with our peers.

Volunteering isn't about saving someone's life,or about changing it.It's about touching a different world and reminding ourselves that there is much, much more to life than the daily routines we take for granted. With that knowledge, maybe, just maybe,we can go on to really change the world.

(2016·济南高三模拟)Unemployment in Europe has recently hit record highs.Although Denmark has been protected from economic problems thanks to its low public debt, qualified professionals are still finding it tough to get a job.Danish marketing firm Reputation Copenhagen has come up with a way of helping academics get noticed—putting them on display in storefront windows.

Many highly trained professionals, ranging from former CEOs to lawyers and tax experts, are currently finding it increasingly difficult to find proper employment on the Danish job market. Some of them have been trying for years, leaving their resumes (简历) with dozens of companies, without ever hearing back from them, and are now at a point where they are willing to try anything, even putting themselves in display windows like goods, hoping to get noticed.

Alexander Peitersen, managing director of Reputation Copenhagen came up with the idea of using his company's office as a storefront for the campaign (活动), as there are many businesses nearby that might be interested in the talents on display. So he set up a small desk, put up the sign “An available academic is sitting here” and asked the unemployed to just sit in the windows like goods. It seems like a pretty desperate measure, but at least it works.According to the agency's website, three of the job seekers in their window display got a job in a day or two.

Peitersen says he came up with the idea after realizing human resource managers get hundreds of job applications every day, which look more or less the same, and that creative thinking is required in order to increase the chances of finding employment.Apart from companies interested in qualified job seekers, the campaign has also attracted the attention of both local and international media.
