Last year, researchers from the University of Michigan reported that empathy, the ability to understand other people, among college students had dropped sharply over the past 10 years. That could be because so many people have replaced face time with screen time, the researchers said.

  2

Jennifer Freed,a co-director of a teen program, has another explanation. Turn on the TV,and you're showered with news and reality shows full of people fighting, competing, and generally treating one another with no respect.

  2

There are good reasons not to follow those bad examples.Humans are socially related by nature. Having relationships with other people is an important part of being human — and having empathy is decisive to those relationships. Research ers have also found that empathetic teenagers are more likely to have high self-respect.

  3

Empathy is also an indication of a good leader. In fact,Freed says, many top companies report that empathy is one of the most important things they look for in new managers.

  4

“Academics are important. But if you don't have emotional (情感的) intelligence, you won't be as successful in work or in your love life,” she says.          What's the best way to up your EQ  (情商)? For starters, let down your guard and really listen to others.

  5

To really develop empathy, you'd better volunteer at a nursing home or a hospital, join a club or a team that has a diverse membership, have a “sharing circle” with your family,or spend time caring for pets at an animal shelter.   A. Today, people spend more time alone and are less likely to join groups and clubs. B. “One doesn't develo p empathy by having a lot of opinions and doing a lot of talking,” Freed        says.  C. Humans learn by example and most of the examples on it are anything but empathetic.  D. Empathy is a matter of learning how to understand someone else — both what they think and     how they feel.  E. Good social skills, including empathy, are a kind of “emotional intelligence” that will help

you succeed in many areas of life.  F. Besides, empathy can be a cure for loneliness, sadness, anxiety, and fear.  G. Everyone is different, and levels of empathy differ from person to person.

In spite of so many years of education behind us, can we confidently say we understand what it feels like to be a teacher?

The biggest misunderstanding about teaching jobs is that anyone can be a teacher. In fact, the truth is far from it.

  1

They also know the teaching theory well. They should know how things should be taught and how one can be inspired to learn. Also, they need to have an idea about classroom management and students’ psychology(心理学).

Now it can be really annoying for a teacher if someone says teaching is one of the easiest jobs around, because everyone just needs to be taught for a few hours a day.

  2

However, teachers work longer to come up with ways to make the knowledge appear more interesting to students and help them learn better.

  3

And this is a big reason why more people decide to choose teaching as a career. However, good teachers choose to make good use of the break, by enrolling(注册) themselves for workshops on teaching, classroom management, and related things. All teachers are not the same, as against what is widely believed.

  4

Every teacher is different and has a different approach(方法) to teaching.

  5

A teacher has meetings to attend, and is responsible for(对……负责) organizing school events. An important duty of a teacher is to prepare the progress report of each student and discuss it with his or her parents.

In a word, teachers ought to be respected for what they do, and we should never forget their great contribution(贡献) to our success in life. A. A teacher has many things to do rather than just teach. B. It is true that teachers get a lot more holidays than others. C. A good teacher is one who motivates students to overcome challenges. D. To begin with, teachers are people who perform well in their fields of study. E. A statement that is true for one teacher is not necessarily true for the others. F. And common people even believe teachers are probably overpaid when their days end at 3 pm. G. These teachers give all they can to create an ideal learning environment for their students.

Before going outside in the morning, many of us check a window thermometer(温度计)for the temperature. This helps us decide what to wear. _______1______ . We want our food to be a certain coldness in the refrigerator. We want it a certain hotness in the oven. If we don’t feel well, we use a thermometer to see if we have a fever. We keep our rooms a certain warmth in the winter and a certain coolness in the summer.

Not all the thermometers use the same system to measure temperature. We use a system called the Fahrenheit scale. But most other countries use the Centigrade scale.

Both systems use the freezing and boiling points of water as their guide._____

  2_______ .

The most common kind of thermometer is made with mercury(水银)inside a clear glass tube. As mercury (or any other liquid ) becomes hot, it expands. As it gets colder, it contracts(收缩). That is why on hot days the mercury line is high in the glass tube.______3______.

  4____________.

Finally. Place a white card on the outside of the bottle and behind the straw. Now you can see the water lever easily.

  _______

  5___________.

As the temperature goes down, the water will contract, and the lever in the straw will come down. Perhaps you will want to keep a record of the water lever in the straw each morning for a week.

  A. We use and depend on thermometers to measure the temperature of many other things in our daily lives.

  B. Thermometers measure temperature, by using materials that change in the same way when they are heated or cooled.

  C. Now that you know this rule you can make a thermometer of your own that will work.

  D. The water will rise in the straw. As the temperature of the air goes up, the water will expand and rise even higher.

  E. They label these in different ways. On the Fahrenheit scale water freezes at 32 degrees and boils at 212 degrees. On the Celsius scale water freezes at 0 degrees and boils at 100degrees.

  F. Take wax (you may use an old candle if you have one) and melt some of it right where the straw is struck into the cap to seal(把..粘住) them together.

  Develop Better Relationships with Neighbors

Good neighbors are a lot like electricity or running water:we don’t know how much we depend on them until we don’t have them. They make our lives more pleasant and give us a sense of who we wrte, both as an individual and as a member of the community. Here is how to develop your relationships with these very important people in your life.

  ___

  1__

_Often neighbors don’t even know each other’s names. But it’s okay to be the one to break the ice , even if you’ve lived next door for years. Most neighbors enjoy making small talk with the folks on the other side of the fence. So as you see them at work in their yards, smile, wave, and say hello. Ask how their kids are (whether they’re babies or in college), whether they could use an extra cucumber from your garden, or what they think of the price at the local supermarket.

  ___

  2__

_These days, the old Welcome Wagon is a thing of the past. But your new neighbors maybe feeling lonely and unsure, especially if they’re far from home, and might appreciate a friendly face bearing fresh-baked chocolate cakes. If they have kids, tell them where the children in theneighborhood live. Recommend the best places to eat and sleep. Invite them over for coffee or tea when they get settled, give them your number, and point to your house as you say good-bye.

  ___

  3__

_ Return anything that you borrow from a neighbor, such as tools, in good repair and as soon as you’ve finished with them. Replace anything that belongs to your neighbor that you, your children, or your pets break or soil. Make sure that your car is not blocking their doorway. Such random acts of consideration will have your neighbors talking — and the talk will be good.

  ___

  4__

_If you value a friendship with your neighbors, spend time with them. What better way to meet your neighbors than to invite them to an informal barbecue, pool party, or holiday open house? Better yet, you might even consider throwing a get-together in their honor. Deliver the invitations in person to everyone who lives on your street and chat with each for five minutes before moving on to the next house. This way, you will get an idea of what your neighbors are like so that you can plan for appropriate food and music.

  ___

  5__

_ In a good relationship, it’s really the little things that count. Help to bring in the mail for the elderly neighbor when there is a heavy rain. When your neighbor forgets to take in his rubbish cans, roll them back into his yard. If you’re truly concerned, you’ll know when your neighbor needs some cheering up — a bunch of flowers or a helping hand when it’s needed. All it takes to develop  your relationship with neighbors is the respect for their feelings.

  我们知道要把容器进行分类保存,不要一起扔进垃圾箱。

  3. G 本空与前面的“Look for the big green bins.

Get an。Overview during the first half hour以及时间上

  5. E 本空敢接上文“If the test

  will

require you to write, then study by writing—including

  【解析】
