W:What's that book you are reading? It looks really interesting.

M:Oh,it's called Life on Earth. Um,I got it because of that television program.

  (Text 3)

M:If you will excuse me, I really should be off now.

W:Not yet surely. Have another drink at least.

M: No, thank you all the same. And thank you very much indeed for the delicious meal.

  W:Thank you for coming.

  (Text 4)

  M:Would you like anything else?

  W:No,thanks. That's all I need.

M:Would you like us to deliver these this afternoon?

W:Oh, yes, please. That would be lovely.

  (Text 5)

M:Would you like to join us for dinner tomorrow evening at the Steak House?

W:I'd love to,but I'm afraid I'll have to say no. I'm going to Washington D. C. for the weekend.

M:Oh,sorry. We'll make it another time.

W:Good. Thank you very much for the invitation.

  (Text 6)

M:Let's drop in here for a cup of coffee or something.

W:Well,I'd love to,but as a matter of fact,I've got to make rather an early start tomorrow.

M:Oh,I see. Well,in that case, let's take a taxi straight back to your place.

W:Thanks. That would be very nice of you.

  (Text 7)

  W:Hello,Bill. Come in.

M:Thank you. I've brought your book back, Jane.

W:Yes. I've been lucky so far this year, though.

M:So I decided to get up and make a cup of tea. I'd just got into the kitchen when I started to feel all unsteady on my feet. Then I got this roaring noise in my ears. I still thought it was the flu, you see.

  W:It can't be true.

  M:Here. You read it.

  (Text 10)

He told Mr Thompson that he was ill in bed and was not able to go to work that day. Mr Thompson asked him to stay in bed until he felt well enough to work. Mr Thompson liked Bill very much. At 12:30 he got into his car, drove to a shop and bought some fruit for him. He went to Bill's flat and rang the doorbell. Bill's wife answered the door. Bill looked better and he was sure he would be able to go to work the next day. At three o'clock in the afternoon, Mr Thompson locked his office door, and switched on his portable television. He wanted to watch an important international football match. It was England against Brazil. Both teams were playing well, but neither team could score a goal. The crowd were cheering. It was very exciting. Finally England won. Mr Thompson jumped out of his chair. He was very excited. He was smiling happily when suddenly the cameraman focussed on the crowd. Mr Thompson's smile disappeared and he looked very angry. Bill Walker's face was there on the screen. He didn't look ill, and he didn't sound ill. He was smiling happily and cheering wildly !

  (2015·北京朝阳期末)

Teaching is more than leadership. Some of the teacher's time and effort is directed toward instruction, some toward evaluation. But it is the teacher as a group leader who creates an effective organizational structure (结构) and good working environment so that instruction and evaluation activities can take place. A group that is totally disorganized, unclear about its goals, or constantly fighting among its members will not be a good learning group. The leadership pattern includes helping to form and maintain a positive learning environment so that instruction and evaluation activities can take place.

On the first day of class, the teacher faces a room filled with individuals (个体). Perhaps a few closely united groups and friendships already exist. But there is no sense of group unity, no set of rules fbr conduct in the group, no feeling of belonging. It' teachers are successful leaders, they will help students develop a system of relationships that encourages working together.

Standards and rules must be set to keep order, make sure of justice and protect individual rights, but do not contradict school policy. What happens when one student hurts another's individual rights? Without clear regulations agreeable to the students and teachers, the classroom can become chaotic. Students may break rules they did not know existed. If standards are set without participation from the class, students may spend a great deal of creative energy in destroying the class environment or finding ways to break rules.

No matter how skillful the teacher is in uniting students and creating a positive atmosphere, the task is never complete. Regular maintenance is necessary. When conflicts arise, the needs of individual members change. A new kind of learning task requires a new organizational structure. Sometimes outside pressures such as holidays, upcoming tests or sport competitions, or family troubles cause stress in the classroom. One task for the teacher is to recreate a positive environment by helping students deal with conflict, change, and stress.

  (2015·重庆名校联考)

The Erie Canal was the first important national waterway built in the U.S. It crossed New York from Buffalo on Lake Erie to Albany and Troy on the Hudson River. It joined the Great Lakes with the Atlantic Ocean. The canal served as a route over which industrial goods could flow into the west, and materials could pour into the east. The Erie Canal helped New York develop into the nation's largest city.

The building of the canal was paid for entirely by the state of New York. It cost $7,143,789, but it soon gained its price many times over. Between 1825, when the canal was opened, and 1882, when toll charges (过运河费) were stopped, the state collected $121,461,891.

For a hundred years before the Erie was built, people had been talking about a canal which could join the Great Lakes and the Atlantic Ocean. The man who planned the Erie Canal and carried the plan through was De Witt Clinton. Those who were against the canal laughingly called it “Clinton's Ditch (沟)”. Clinton talked and wrote about the canal and drew up plans for it. He and Governor Morris went to Washington in 1812 to ask for help for the canal, but they were unsuccessful.

Clinton became governor of New York in 1817, and shortly afterwards, on July 4, 1817, broke ground for the canal in Rome, N.Y. The first part of the canal was completed in 1820. As the canal grew, towns along its course developed fast. The length of the canal is 363 miles.

In the past, teachers were limited to what they could do when it came to how they could present lesson plans and information to their pupils. Commonly they would stand in front of a podium and lecture to students about the lesson of the day. Sometimes a teacher might write something on the board, maybe even have students read out loud from a book, yet that would be it. Basically in the past, there was not much interaction(交互) going on between the teacher and the students.

Now,teachers have all sorts of choices when it comes to how they can teach their students and it could not have come any sooner. One is actually a whiteboard that is interactive. So not only can teachers display things for their students to see in colour, but teachers can also change up what is being displayed on the screen through the use of a wireless device that is typically in the shape of a pen or laser pointer. To change what is being displayed on the screen, all the teacher has to do is point at the screen using the device and just like that, things are moving. No longer are lesson plans stagnant,_but they come to life right before the students' eyes.

Another is a touch pad screens where teachers can actually walk around the room to teach their students. The screens themselves are similar to other name brand touch screens that are almost like small computers. They are extremely handy and perfect for situations where the teacher likes to get up and get going. Along with that, SmartEd Services is a portable audio device that allows teachers to amplify(扩大) what is being said to students. If you want to know more an easy way to check into all the options that are out there is to simply do some searching online.

  Good afternoon, everyone!

The topic of my speech today is “Being a Good Listener”.

  ________________________________________________________________________

  Thank you for your listening!

  答案:

  Good afternoon, everyone!

The topic of my speech today is “Being a Good Listener”.

Good listening can always show respect, promote understanding, and improve interpersonal relationship.

Many people suggest that parents should listen more to their children,so they will understand them better, and find it easy to narrow the generation gap; teachers should listen more to their students, and then they can meet their needs better, and place themselves in a good relationship with their students; students should listen more to their classmates, thus they will help and learn from each other, and friendship is more likely to be formed.

What I want to stress is that each of us should listen more to others. Show your respect and never stop others till they finish their talk; show you are interested by a supportive silence or a knowing smile; be openminded to different opinions even though you don't like them. In a word, good listening can really enable us to get closer to each other.

  Thank you for your listening!
