  A

Lily, a student of Cambridge University, has bought a bicycle and is worried about safety.

Her friend, Cathryn, found this article and sent it to her.

How to make your bicycle safe?

A number of crimes are against bicycles. About 150,000 bicycles are stolen every year and most of them are never found. You can prevent this from happening by following a few careful steps.

  Basic Security

Never leave your bicycle in outoftheway places. Always lock your bicycle when you leave. Secure it to lamp posts or trees. Take off smaller parts and carry them with you, for example lights and saddles (车座).

  Locks

There are various types of locks. Buy one that has been tested against attack. Ask for a recommendation from a bike shop owner.

  Marking

The security marking of your bike can act as an obstruction to thieves, which can also help the police find your bicycle. Your postcode and your house or flat number should be included and clearly recorded. This will provide a simple way to identify your bicycle.

  Registration

There are many companies that will offer the security marking to your bicycle. They will then store your registration number and personal details in their computer database.

If your bicycle is found, it will be easy to contact you.

  Attention

Keep a record of the bicycle by yourself: its production place, model and registration number. You can even take a photograph of it. This will prove the bicycle belongs to you.

1.Which part of the article gives the information on how to lock your bicycle when you leave?

  A.Basic Security

  B.Locks

  C.Marking

  D.Registration

文章在Basic Security中提到“Always lock your bicycle when you leave. Secure it to lamp posts or trees”,即当你离开时如何锁自行车,故A项正确。

2.Which one is wrong about the security marking of a bicycle?

A.It can ensure that the thieves won't steal the bike.

B.Some companies can assist you in doing this.

C.It can help the police to find and identify the lost bike.

D.The security marking database makes it easy to get in touch with the owner.

Marking部分提到“The security marking of your bike can act as an obstruction to thieves, which can also help the police find your bicycle”, security marking能帮助警察找到你被偷的自行车,但不是能保证贼不偷你的车子,故A项表述错误。

3.The article advises you to keep a record of your bicycle

  ________.

A.both in the bike shop and your computer

B.either in a security company or your university

C.by yourself and in a company that will offer security marking as well

D.in the police station as well as a marketing company

根据文章最后两段提到的“There are many companies that will offer the security marking to your bicycle...computer database”和“Keep a record of the bicycle by yourself: its production place, model and registration number”可知,文章建议你可以自己记录自行车的产地、型号和注册号,还可以让一个提供security marking的公司做记录,即C项正确。

4.Which of the following information may not be necessarily recorded?

  A.Your postcode and personal details.

B.Both the type of the bike and its picture.

C.The registration number of the bike as well as your address.

D.Your personal information and recommendation in your computer database.

根据文章最后三段中的“Your postcode and your house or flat number should be included and clearly recorded” “They will then store your registration number and personal details in their computer database”和“its production place, model and registration number. You can even take a photograph of it”可知,A、B、C项的信息都需要记录,D项在文中未提及,故选D项。

  1.secure vt./adj.

  2.various adj.

  3.attack vt.

  5.production n.

  B

[2015·黑龙江大庆质检二]According to the UN Intergovernmental Panel (专家咨询组) on Climate Change, global temperatures have risen by approximately 0.6 ℃ in the past century, caused mainly by emissions of greenhouse gases produced by human activities, such as

  the

  burning

  of fossil

  fuels

  and

  deforestation. Temperat-

ures are to increase between 1.6 ℃ and 5.8 ℃ in the next century, accompanied by sea level rise and an increase in the frequency of extreme weather events.

The best available evidence suggests that climate changes since the 1970s may already be causing over 150,000 deaths annually, and that greenhouse gas emissions would increase disease burdens

  in

  the

  coming

  decades.

  The

  risks

are concentrated in The Kyoto Protocol (京都议定书) is signed by 128 nations, and commits the participating industrialized countries to cutting emissions of greenhouse gases by over 5% below 1990 level by the period of 2008~2017.

“Over 600 thousand people died in weatherrelated disasters in the 1990s. Temperature and rainfall influence the rates of diseases and infections including malaria, and malnutrition, which together cause over 3.5 million deaths a year. The Kyoto Protocol is the first step towards protecting the climate system, which exerts such a strong influence on our health”, said Dr. Kerstin Leitner, Assistant DirectorGeneral for Sustainable Development and Healthy Environments.

While acting to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, it is also essential to protect vulnerable (脆弱的) communities from the effects of climate changes.

WHO works to promote measures such as protection from malaria and other climate sensitive diseases, and reliable access to clean water and sanitation, for people in

  the most vulnerable

developing countries. Increasing disease control efforts will also help to protect current and future generations from the impacts of greenhouse gas emissions.

5.According to the passage, what is the reason for the rise of global temperatures?

  A.The burning of fossil fuels.

  B.The rise of sea level.

  C.Extreme weather disasters.

B.The climate system has a deep impact on human health.

C.The members of the Kyoto Protocol are all industrialized countries.

D.The poorest population are to blame because they contribute least to the problem.

A项与文章第四段中的“Over 600 thousand people died in weatherrelated disasters...which together cause over 3.5 million deaths a year”不符;C项意为“京都议定书”成员国都是工业化的国家,与文章第三段的内容不符;D项与文章第二段的最后一句话不符。根据第四段中的“The Kyoto Protocol...on our health”可知选B项。

7.In order to protect communities, WHO takes some measures except ________.

A.preventing diseases caused by climate changes

  B.helping to provide clean water

  C.aiding to offer sanitation

D.gaining access to vulnerable developing countries

根据最后一段中的“such as protection... sanitation”和“Increasing disease control efforts”可知A、B、C三项正确。由“for people in the most vulnerable developing countries”可知,D项错误。

8.What does the passage mainly talk about?

A.Climate changes and the effects on human health.

B.Climate changes cause over 15,000 deaths annually.

C.WHO promotes measures such as protection from malaria.

D.The Kyoto Protocol helps to protect human health.

[2015·河北保定一模]For many people today, reading is no longer relaxation. To keep up their work they must read letters, reports, trade publications, interoffice communications etc., a neverending flood of words.

In getting a job, the ability to read and comprehend quickly can mean the difference between success and failure. __1__ Most of us develop poor reading habits at an early age, and never get over them.

Taken individually, words have little meaning until they are strung together into phrases, sentences and paragraphs. __2__ He laboriously reads one word at a time, often regressing (退回) to reread words or passages.

Regression is a common bad habit in reading.

__3__ It moves a bar (or curtain) down the page at a predetermined speed. The bar is set at a slightly faster rate than the reader finds comfortable, in order to “stretch” him. The accelerator (加速器) forces the reader to read fast, making wordbyword reading practically impossible. __4__ But when you learn to read ideas and concepts, you will not only read faster, but your comprehension will improve. Many people have found their reading skill drastically improved after some training.

Take Charlce, a business manager, for instance, his reading rate was a reasonably good-172 words a minute before the training, now it is an excellent 280 words a minute.__5__

A.A good reader obtains good reading skills.

B.Yet the fact is that most of us are poor readers.

C.To overcome the bad habit, some reading clinics use a device called an accelerator.

D.At first comprehension is sacrificed for speed.

E.Unfortunately, however, the untrained reader does not read groups of words.

F.He is delighted that he can get through a lot more reading material in a short period of time.

G.To his joy, he soon has got a rise.

  1.说明你会选择哪一本书阅读;

  2.该书的大概内容;

  Two possible versions:

  (1)

I prefer the book “Everyone Is Beautiful” written by Caroline Scrong, which is intended to encourage us to learn to accept people for who they are and meanwhile be ourselves. Everyone is unique and has both strengths and weaknesses. However, there are always some people around us who fail to show enough respect to others, especially those who seem inferior to them. And some may lack confidence in themselves, thus following others blindly. Therefore, I plan to work as a volunteer in our community in the coming holiday to help raise people's awareness of the fact that everyone is beautiful, in one way or another. Hopefully this book can get me betterequipped for the voluntary work.

  (2)

Recently, our English teacher has recommended two excellent books to us—Everyone Is Beautiful by Caroline Scrong and Leadership Is A Choice by Austin Young. Personally, I prefer the latter one, which mainly offers some practical tips on how to conquer our fears and be a leader. And that's just what I'm dying for. For one thing, I have a special interest in leadership but have always been lacking in confidence. Hopefully this book can help me overcome my fears and gain enough confidence. For another, I plan to run for Chairman of the Student Union in the coming term. I suppose this book will get me better equipped for that.
