The stories we share with one another are important. They show wisdom and provide inspiration. They are important to our development. But sometimes people choose not to tell.

Consider the negative effects of not sharing a story in the news: People are wondering if public health officials are holding back too much information about the recent outbreak of Ebola.

There is a danger in holding back stories that ought to be told. Bobette Buster said it like this, “The fact is, history has shown us that stories not told can become like a dangerous genie (妖怪) left in a bottle. When they are finally uncorked, their power to destroy is set free.”

There are a number of reasons why we hide parts of our story: they often show our weaknesses or expose our disadvantages; they require courage and strength to share; and of course, there are some stories that should be kept secret—especially those that embarrass someone else.

Most of us have two selves: the one we display on the outside and the one we actually are on the inside. And the better we get at hiding the stories that show our true selves, the more damage we may be causing to ourselves and to others.

Honesty and openness is important: It proves we are trustworthy. It displays we are human. We are not perfect or better. It highlights the importance of hard work and personal development. Hard work may not allow us to overcome our disadvantages completely. But with hard work, we do not have to be restricted to our mistakes.

Does this mean we admit every weakness, every disadvantage, and every secret regret to everybody we meet? No, of course not. There is a time and a place and a certain level of relationship necessary for some stories to be told in an appropriate manner.

31.What’s the function of the example in Paragraph 2?

  A. It reflects that people are concerning about the spread of Ebola.

  B. It shows the bad effect caused by sharing a story.

  C. It proves not sharing a story can cause trouble.

  D. It concludes that one should share a story at a proper time.

32.One of the reasons why people are unwilling to share experiences is that _______.

  A. story-sharing highlights the importance of hard work

  B. people are used to exposing their weaknesses

  C. people sometimes have no courage to share their stories

  D. some stories make themselves feel uneasy

33.Which is close in meaning to the underlined word “uncorked” in Paragraph 3?

  A. freed

  B. broken

  C. unfolded

  D. untouched

34.The writer aims to convince us to _______.

  A. be open to people close to you by sharing some secrets

  B. share stories appropriately for the good of others and ourselves

  C. remove the dangers that can be caused by untold stories

  D. realize the importance of being honest when making friends

根据第四段中“they often show our weaknesses or expose our disadvantages;they require courage and strength to share”可知人们之所以不愿意和别人分享自己的经历是因为他们缺乏勇气,故答案为C考点:考查社会生活类短文阅读。

“Cleverness is a gift while kindness is a choice. Gifts are easy – they’re given after all. Choices can be hard.” –– Jeff Bezos.

I got the idea to start Amazon 16 years ago. I came across the fact that the Internet usage was growing at 2,300 percent per year. I’d never seen or heard of anything that grew that fast, and the idea of building an online bookstore with millions of titles was very exciting to me. I had just turned 30 years old, and I’d been married for a year. I told my wife MacKenzie that I wanted to quit my job and go to do this crazy thing that probably wouldn’t work since most start-ups don’t, and I wasn’t sure what to expect. MacKenzie told me I should go for it. As a young boy, I’d been a garage inventor. I’d always wanted to be an inventor, and she wanted me to follow my passion.

I was working at a financial firm in New York City with a bunch of very smart people, and I had a brilliant boss that I much admired. I went to my boss and told him I wanted to start a company selling books on the Internet. He took me on a long walk in Central Park, listened carefully to me, and finally said, “That sounds like a really good idea, but it would be an even better idea for someone who didn’t already have a good job.” That logic made some sense to me, and he convinced me to think about it for 48 hours before making a final decision. Seen in that light, it really was a difficult choice, but ultimately, I decided I had to give it a shot. I didn’t think I’d regret trying and failing. And I suspected I would always be haunted by a decision to not try at all.

After much consideration, I took the less safe path to follow my passion, and I’m proud of that choice. For all of us, in the end, we are our choices.

35.What inspired the author with the idea of building an online bookstore?

  A. The greatly increasing usage of the Internet.

  B. The support of his wife.

  C. His dream of being an inventor.

  D. Millions of exciting titles. 36.We can know from the passage that _______.

  A. the boss thought the idea was suitable for the author

  B. the author might not regret if he failed the idea

  C. the author wanted someone else to try the idea

  D. the author might go back to his boss if he failed 37.Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?

  A. Cleverness and Kindness

  B. The Starting of Amazon

  C. We Are What We Choose

  D. Following My Passion

根据第二段“I came across the fact that the Internet usage was growing at 2,300 percent per year. I’d never seen or heard of anything that grew that fast, and the idea of building an online bookstore with millions of titles was very exciting to me.” 根据第三段“I decided I had to give it a shot. I didn’t think I’d regret trying and failing.” 根据最后一段“After much consideration, I took the less safe path to follow my passion, and I’m proud of that choice. For all of us, in the end, we are our choices.” C。’s the world’s ugliest animal---the blobfish(水滴鱼).

Its strange skin is shaped by its habitat. It lives 800 meters below the ocean’s surface, a depth where very few other creatures can survive.

Most fishes have a swim bladder(鱼鳔), which is filled with gas and helps them stay afloat. At the depth that the blobfish live, water pressure is 80 times higher than that at higher sea levels and any swim bladder wouldn’t be able to serve its purpose.

The blobfish don’t have a swim bladder because their skin works the same way. It helps them stay afloat without having to use any energy.

The blobfish have a pretty relaxed attitude towards eating. All they do is stay and wait for crabs or lobsters to come by.

Since the blobfish like to eat crabs and lobsters, they often get caught in nets that are used to catch lobsters or crabs and end up dying or being killed. They are not suitable for eating so they are useless for fishermen.

There’s a purpose behind the blobfish’s new title; it has become the new mascot for the Ugly Animal Preservation Society, an organization whose purpose is to preserve endangered ugly animals.

“We’ve needed an ugly face for endangered ugly animals for a long time and I’ve been amazed by the public reaction,” said the Society’s Simon Watt. “For too long cute animals have taken the limelight(风头) but now the blobfish will be a voice for those who always get forgotten.”They hope this new face will help the world know that we need to help preserve the populations of ugly animals too.

38.The biggest difference between the blobfish and most other fishes is that the blobfish_____ .

  A. cannot be eaten by people

  B. don’t have a swim bladder

  C. only live at high sea levels

  D. aren’t active in catching food

39.What makes the blobfish stay afloat?

  A. Their skin.

  B. Their tail.

  C. Their mouth.

  D. Their swim bladder.

40.We can learn from what Simon Watt said that _____ .

  A. most ugly animals are in danger

  B. the population of the blobfish is increasing

  C. the blobfish have attracted the public’s attention

  D. people knew nothing about the blobfish in the past

  39.A

  40.C

  39.A

The blobfish don’t have a swim bladder because their skin works the same way. 故选A。

  40.C

  41

It is better to have a teacher, especially when they learn something more difficult.

First, a teacher can act as a guide to lead you to success. When you learn, you need help and advice. A teacher will give you a hand when you face difficulties.

What is more, a teacher puts real pressure on you. If you study by yourself, you must be strong-minded enough to keep on.

  43

But under the guidance of a teacher, you will feel there is always someone to watch you. The teacher may give you homework to do. You must complete the homework, or you will not pass the course.

Last but not least, studying with a teacher will help you receive the benefit of the teacher’s knowledge.

  44

They teach students how to learn and how to obtain information. They guide all of you in class to discuss the material and provide extra material to broaden the scope of the topic.

  45

I choose to learn in a big family---my school. Without a teacher, I would feel there would be no fun and no pressure. I could not learn well in such dull and depressing circumstances.

  A. Besides, teachers are connected with our life.

  B. Teachers can help you solve all of your problems.

  C. In short, I prefer to go to class studying with a teacher.
