  A

The society today is in a state of changing.Everywhere ways of doing things are changing and the items that we use on a daily basis are also changing. This change has also come to the clothing business. Most people are not aware that organic clothing production is now a billiondollar industry. Many of us probably don't even know what organic clothing is.

Organic clothing is the material that is made and grown in accordance with organic standards. This means that in the process of growing the material no harm is done to the air, water and the earth itself. These materials are not harmful to the earth's natural ecological system and meet the standards of what is wellknown today as “going green”.Another fact that most people are not aware of is that the clothing industry adds more pollution to the natural environment than most other industries.

Cotton is one material where pesticides are used a lot because the crops are always being attacked by various insects and bugs.To the contrary, organically grown cotton does not use any of these harmful pesticides nor do they add any other chemicals to the natural cotton.

Organic clothing is catching_on but you may not find it in your local department stores. However, you would be more likely to find a better variety by going online.Organic clothing may be a bit more expensive than ordinary clothing.Cotton is not the only material that is grown organically, although it is very popular.Other materials include hemp, bamboo, and wool.Just as with organically grown cotton, there are no pesticides or chemicals used in the growing process of these materials. Most people say that clothing made from organic cotton has a smoother feel and is softer and gentler on the skin.

26.According to the text, which of the following is known by most people?

  A.What organic clothing is.

  B.What “going green” means.

C.Organic clothing is a moneymaking business.

D.The clothing industry seriously pollutes the environment.

从第二段“what is wellknown today as ‘going green’”可知“绿色”这个概念是被人们所熟悉的。

  【答案】 B

27.Which aspect do organic standards mainly deal with?

  A.The quality.

  B.People's health.

  C.The environment.

  D.The production of clothing.

28.Which of the following is TRUE about organic cotton?

A.Insects and bugs don't attack organic cotton.

B.Only cotton has been organically grown so far.

C.Neither pesticides nor chemicals are added to orgainc cotton.

D.People think poorly of clothing made from organic cotton.

从最后一段“Just as with organically grown cotton, there are no pesticides or chemicals used in the growing profess of these materials.” 从“Cotton is not the

only material that is grown organically...”可知棉花不是唯一的有机作物,故B项错误;从“Most people say that clothing made from organic cotton has a smoother feel and is softer and gentler on the skin.”

29.The underlined phrase “catching on” in the fourth paragraph means “________”.

  A.becoming popular

  B.becoming cheaper

  C.getting improved

  D.getting started

  【答案】 A

30.What is the BEST title for the text?

  A.Changes in Organic Clothing

  B.How Organic Clothing Develops

  C.The Truth About Organic Clothing

D.Where to Buy the Real Organic Clothes

故C项“The Truth About Organic Clothing”最符合。

  【答案】 C

  B

How difficult change is depends a lot on your attitude towards it and your resistance to it.Your attitude to change can itself change, and make the whole transformation process much easier. It all depends on your point of view.

Imagine change as a pair of shoes, which will help you understand change and how it works.I am sure that you have ever had a comfortable pair of shoes in your life. That pair of shoes is so comfortable that you really don't want to ever get rid of them.

You know you need a new pair, and may even have them, but you don't want to wear them because you are comfortable with your old pair.Besides, the new pair may hurt your feet, give you blisters or be uncomfortable to start with. So,you refuse to change into the new shoes. However,a part of you knows that this new pair would be much better for your feet, and after the discomfort they would probably be even more comfortable, yet you still don't want to.

Do you know I'm doing this now? I'm wearing my comfortable shoes and they feel good. They have a hole in each heel, and the sole is starting to fall off,but I'm still wearing them.

This describes change exactly: change of our habits, change of our thought patterns. We stick with the old patterns because they are comfortable.Yet once we get over the pain of the transformation, the new pattern will be comfortable and feel good until the time comes when we need another new pair of shoes.

31.Why do people prefer old shoes to new ones?

A.They have much emotion in the old ones.

  B.They are more comfortable.

C.New shoes always harm the feet.

D.They look better than the new ones.

B32.According to the text,we know that people ________.

A.don't realize the benefit of the new shoes very well

B.are positive and openminded to accept new things

C.actually know change will finally be good for them

D.don't accept new patterns because they are not good

33.With a hole in each heel, the writer decides to ________.

  A.throw them away

  B.buy a new pair

  C.have them repaired

  D.go on wearing them

根据倒数第二段中的“They have a hole in each heel, and the sole is starting to fall off,but I'm still wearing them.”

  34.In the writer's view,________.

  A.change is hard and unnecessary

B.old shoes are better than new ones

  C.change depends a lot on one's attitude

D.people prefer to wear fashionable shoes

根据第一段中的“Your attitude to change can itself change, and make the whole transformation process much easier.”

35.What is the BEST title of the text?

  A.A Hard Choice

  B.The Older,the Better

  C.Stick with the Old Patterns

  D.Change Whenever Necessary

  C

Alan King,an American comedian, was born in New York City on December 26,1927.He was the youngest of eight children. His family environment fostered his interest in storytelling, but it was the streets of New York that led him to humor.Boys in New York learned to protect themselves early on the streets and if it was not with their fists,it was with humor, and King had an answer to everything.

Seeing a future in making people laugh,King left school and began remembering jokes he had heard in basement clubs. He discovered a perfect way to make people laugh:shining a light on the humor in everyday life. The audience loved it and King was on his way.

He moved up in the show business ranks, performing club gigs (特约演出)and getting his frst break as a replacement when a comic was sick. But it was his appearance as a first act “closer”in 1956 that made King a star.Since then,King became a regular on The Ed Sullivan Show, and was the guest host of The Tonight Show on several occasions.King's act was streetwise, smart, understandable, and funny. Not only the middle class, but everyone could relate to his humorous stories.

His interests were greater than just the show business, and he became known as a political activist.King was close to Robert Kennedy and went with Kennedy's body to Washington D.C.after he was assassinated in 1968.

King is also the author of four bestselling books:Anybody Who Owns His Own Home Deserves It,Is Salami and Eggs Better Than Sex?,Help,I'm a Prisoner in a Chinese Bakery and his autobiography,Name Dropping.

He also started a scholarship for American students at Hebrew University. In medical circles,he was known for raising funds for Emotionally Disturbed Children and for founding the Alan King Diagnostic Medical Center in Jerusalem.

36.How did King protect himself on the streets of New York when he was young?

  A.He fought with other boys.

B.He asked his family to help.

C.He used his strong sense of humor.

  D.He answered every question himself.

从第一段“...it was the streets of New York that led him to humor.Boys in New York leanred to protect themselves early on the streets and if it was not with their fists,it was with humor, and King had an answer to everything.”

37.From the second paragraph we can learn that ________.

  A.King enjoyed making up jokes

B.King did not like going to school

C.King enjoyed playing jokes on the audience

D.King looked at daily life in a humorous way

从第二段“Seeing a future in making people laugh,King left school and began remembering jokes...” 从“He discovered a perfect way to make people laugh”可知他只是让观众笑,而不是取笑观众,故C项错误。从“shining a light on the humor in everyday life”可知他以一种幽默的方式来看待每天的生活,故D项正确。

D38.What do we know about King and his life in the show business?

  A.He acted regularly after 1956.

B.He was known to everyone then.

C.He once hosted The Ed Sullivan Show.

D.He first became famous when he replaced a sick comic.

从第三段“...in 1956...Since then,King became a regular on The Ed Sullivan Show...”

  【答案】 A

  39.The underlined word “assassinated”means ________.

  A.chosen

  B.wounded

  C.interviewed

  D.murdered

肯尼迪是在1968年遭暗杀身亡,从前面“...went with Kennedv's body to Washington D.C....”

40.Alan King made great achievements in all the following fields EXCEPT ________.

  A.the show business

  B.writing

  C.business

  D.education

  D

If you have been to the grocery store lately, you know that you can read such labels as “enriched”,“fortified”,“natural” and “organically grown”.However, these types of product labels are often misleading and false.

The first type of words which we have to pay attention to include:“fortified”,“enriched”,“added”,“extra”and “plus”.These could easily mean that certain beneficail nutrients and minerals may have been removed while other vitamins were added during the processing. You should try to look for foods which are labeled “100% whole”,“high fiber” and “low sugar”.As far as drinks are concerned,do not buy a product just because it says “fruit drink” on it.There could be little or no real juice in the bottle.Another key phrase to be aware of is “made with”.Just because a product states that it's made with something it does not mean that it contains 100% of that nutrient,so try to look for proudcts that state “whole” or “100%”.

Another food label that we are easily fooled by is “natural”.This is often misleading because the company may have started out with a natural product, but after it has been processed it is no longer totally natural.Try to find products that state “100% all natural” or “no preservatives”.As far as organics are concerned, look for “certified organically grown” on the packaging. So the next time you go to the supermarket,be a smart shopper and read the food labels carefully.

As a consumer,it is important to explore both sides of the product packaging and to be aware of false food labeling. There are certain key words which we can comfortably trust when it comes down to healthy eating, being aware of what these words are is the key to buying the best products there.

41.If you want to buy real fruit juice, you should NOT buy those drinks which ________.

  A.state “100% all natural”

  B.say “certified organically grown”

  C.state “whole” or “100%”

  D.only say “fruit drink”

根据文章第二段“As far as drinks are concerned,do not buy a product just because it says ‘fruit drink’ on it.There could be little or no real juice in the bottle.”

42.From the text we can infer that ________.

A.we are always misled by advertisements

B.we should not always trust the labels

C.we should buy products according to the labels

D.we can always get useful information from the labels

根据文章第一段的“However, these types of product labels are often misleading and false.”

43.This text is designed for ________.

  A.advertisers

  B.salesmen

  C.consumers

  D.researchers

44.When a kind of food is labelled “natural”,it means that

  ________.

A.it may be made from a natural product

B.vitamins are added during the processing

  C.it is 100% natural

  D.it contains no preservatives

根据文章的第三段的“...may have started out with a natural product”可知标有“natural”字样的商品在一开始生产的时候,它的原料应该是天然的。

A45.How is the text developed?

As I grew up,my music teacher found that I had a good voice,so she advised me to study vocal music in the Children's Palace. From then on,I began my vocal music training.I practiced how to produce sounds and how to make our expressions more natural and more pleasing.I won one award after another in several competitions.

As time went by,I still take singing as my hobby since I find music is the interest that is missing in the exams. When I am stressful and bored,it is music that helps me live through these tough hours.Enjoying music,I live a happy life.
