Good afternoon, everyone.
My name is Li Hua. It’s my honor to run for president of the English Club in our school.
I’m confident that I’m well fit for the position. For one thing, I’m outgoing and good at communicating with others. For another, I have been a class monitor since Junior High School, which helped me gain much experience in organization and management. Last but not least, my English is good and I want to help others learn English well.
If I’m chosen, I will organize more after-class activities about English learning to enrich our lives. I will work together with other members, making the English Club more attractive and helpful. I really hope that you can give me a chance and I’m sure I will be a good president.
That’s all. Thank you.

Part B:Role Play
1.
Q1:What do you want to study?
A1: I’ve been thinking. I think I want to study journalism to be a reporter — a newspaperman. You know I do a pretty good job on the Riverdale High School paper. And I have written different kinds of articles —sports, theater reviews and so on.
Q2: Have you discussed it with your parents?
A2: Yes. We discussed it yesterday. I told them I didn’t want to go to Michigan because I was not sure about what I wanted to do. But to my surprise, my father didn’t scold me.
Q3: Are you planning to go to Columbia University?
A3: Maybe. On the one hand, they have an excellent School of Journalism. On the other hand, I hope I can still study with you in the same university. But if my father let me make my own decision, I might choose Michigan University. So I don’t know how to choose, too.

Part C:Story Retellings
There was a man who had a little boy that he loved very much. He always spent all of his spare time playing with the little boy. One day, the man was too busy to play with his little boy. Then the man got an idea. He removed a large map of the world on a magazine’s cover, and then patiently tore it up into small pieces. Then he put all the pieces into his coat pocket. When he got home, he told the boy that he had extra work to do and couldn’t play with him. He took out all the pieces of the map and spread them on the table. He asked the boy to put back the map together. He thought the boy would spend lots of time finishing it. At the same time, his extra work would be finished and they could both play. However, to his surprise, the boy finished it in half an hour. The man asked him how he did that. The boy said that it was simple. On the back of the page was a picture of a man. When he put the man together, the whole world fell into place.
