  阅读下面短文,根据所读内容在表格中的空格处填入恰当的单词。

  注意:每个空格只填一个单词。

In addition to self-awareness, imagination, and conscience, it is the fourth quality—independent will—that really makes effective self-management possible. It is the ability to make decisions and choices and to act in agreement with them. It is the ability to act rather than to be acted upon, to actively carry out the programme we have developed through the other three qualities.

The human will is an amazing thing. Time after time, it has overcome unbelievable difficulties. The Helen Kellers of this world give dramatic(给人深刻印象的) evidence to the value, the power of the independent will.

But as we examine this quality in the context of effective selfmanagement, we realize it’s usually not the dramatic, the visible(可见的), the once-in-a-lifetime, up-by-the-bootstraps(自立自强的) effort that brings lasting success. This special ability comes from learning how to use this great quality in the decisions we make every day.

The degree to which we have developed our independent will in our everyday lives is measured by our personal honesty. Honesty is, fundamentally, the value we place on ourselves. It’s our ability to make and keep promises to ourselves, to 搘alk our talk.?Effective management is putting first things first. While leadership decides what 揻irst things?are, it is management that puts them first, day-by-day, moment-by-moment. Management e tois discipline (training to be self-controlled), carrying it out.

Discipline obtains from belief—belief in a set of values, belief in an overriding(最主要的) purpose, to a long-term or short term goal that must be carried out.

In other words, if you are an effective manager of yourself, your discipline comes from within; it is a function of your independent will. You are a follower of your own deep values and their source. And you have the will, the quality to control your feelings and moods rather than depend on others or have your work half done.

Chinese senior middle school graduates have different opinions on how to choose their courses and universities.

We can see from the graph that about 35% of the students believe the choice should be based on their own interest.More students (around 45%), however, insist that main consideration should be given to the needs of the society.Interestingly, there are about 20% who find it too difficult to make a choice and would rather depend on their parents or teachers to make a decision.Personally, I would like to choose my courses and university according to my own interest. The reasons can be listed as follows.

To begin with, it is widely acknowledged that interest is the best teacher. With the help of this best teacher, my four-year learning experience in the university will be made more enjoyable and much easier as well. While on the other hand, it is a miserable thing to have to spend most of your time studying what you have no interest in. Quite apart from that, interest helps to arouse your curiosity, stimulate your motivation for exploring new things, thus leading to creativity and even a new invention, which might be beneficial to the whole world.

For these reasons/As mentioned above, I can draw a safe conclusion that there is nothing that will make my college life more fascinating than interest. I have every reason to believe that, with a goal in my mind, along with the interest and effort, I will surely achieve great success in the coming university life.
