  1) Some parts of the water are very shallow. But in some places it is very _____.

  A. deep

  B. high

  C. cold

  D. dangerous

  2) Mrs O’Neill asked_____questions and she didn’t scold us either.

  A. no

  B. certain

  C. many

  D. more

  Here’s a fellow who just walked into a bank and helped himself_____so much money.

  A. for

  B. by

  C. to

  D. of

  Soon I heard a_____like that of a door burst in and then a climb of feet.

  A. sound

  B. cry

  C. voice

  D. shout

  And video cameras can be used to_____people’s actions at home.

  A. keep

  B. make

  C. record

  D. watch

  It has been many years since I was last in London_____I still remember something that happened during that visit.

  A. and

  B. for

  C. but

  D. as

  根据句前的many years和句后的still remember答案应选表示转折的连词but.

  Immediately the officers jumped into their cars and rushed to the_____hospital.

  A. animal

  B. biggest

  C. plant

  D. nearest

  __37_

  me so much”。 第36空是被强调部分,在被强调的句子中充当主语,其后是一个定语从句;第37空是被强调句的谓语动词。该段后面描述的都是作者孩提时代在夜晚对一些物体的投影及声音的奇怪的表现方式的恐惧感,再结合第1自然段所表现的主题,我们可以肯定第36、37两空分别应该选way及frightened;

  第38空后面表示转折的并列句是对街灯及过往车灯在房间留下的投影的描述,因此可以断定第38空应该选darkness,因为其它选项与后面的描述无关;

  第39空考察的是动宾搭配,因为只有make才能跟省to不定式结构做宾语补足语,而其它三个动词都只能跟不省to的动词不定式做宾语补足语,因此该空只能选made;

  根据常识可以知道第40空指的是从窗户透进的街灯及过往的车灯照到挂在椅子上的衣服后投射到墙上的各种奇形怪状的影子,因此该空只能选shape;

  第41空的C、D两个选项与句子的意思完全无关,不需考虑;咋一看,B选项似乎可以,但是 “out of”是“从……朝外”的意思,而窗帘是在房间里面,因此也不合句意,所以,只能选A。“out of the corner of one’s eye”的意思是“斜视”,表现了作者欲看不敢的恐惧心理,符合文段的主题;

  第42空只能选wind。因为在一般情况下,只有在有风的时候窗帘才回动,但现在房间里面没有风,但窗帘却似乎在动,作者害怕是房间里的野动物使窗帘动了起来,所以才产生恐惧感,该选项符合该段的意思及文段的主题;

  第43空的选择要注意该选项与它前后两个句子之间的联系。由于晚上环境安静,即便很小的一点声音,听起来也会觉得很大,而由于作者心里非常害怕,因此就会没有节制地胡思乱想,即,“My imagination would ran wild”。该空选择imagination,既符合短文的主题,也符合孩子的心理特点;

  第45空也是既要注意词义区别,也要注意上下文的联系。作者在第2自然段讲的是对黑夜的恐惧,在第3自然段讲到怕被丢失的恐惧,并特别强调这种感觉在从学校回家的路上尤其强烈,因为上学时是在家门口上车,然后直接到学校,不会有那种怕被丢失的感觉,而从学校到其它地方时,他/她则会紧紧盯着领头的人,那种感觉也不会那么强烈;

在该句中though是副词,象though用作连词一样,表示转折关系,但它用作副词时表示的是它与前面那个句子间的转折关系,即相当于“Though every morning I got on the school bus right near my home — that was no problem, after school, when all the buses were lined up along the street, I was afraid that I'd get on the wrong one and be taken to some unfamiliar neighborhood.” It is strange, yet (it is) true.

once与anyway都有干扰作用,但once表示“曾经”的意思时可以指过去的任何时候,不一定只是孩提时代;而then却是明确地表示孩提时代,即前面提到的“as a child”;anyway的意思是 “in spite of everything”, 即“无论如何”,“在任何情况下”,起强调作用,即特别强调“Being popular was so important to me”的唯一性,但“one of the worst fears of all”是把它作为并列因素提出来的,而不是特别强调,因此,与上下文的意思不一致,所以then是最佳选择。
